Google = Pretty much evil...
Netflix = Evil also, but still more cuddly than...
Blockbuster = 100% Pure Hydrogenated Satan cloaked under the guise of something holy...

Have you actually set foot in your library? Just asking because believe it or not if your "local" library (that's if you know where it is) doesn't have a movie title you'd like to see. Chances are the network of other libraries in and around your area will have the title you requested and you can then book said film and watch for free. The library I'm a member of have a vast inventory of DVD's (including Ben Afleck Flicks but do draw the line on PORN) You'd be a very very old man if you started watching them back to back now and exausted the list. And another great thing about libraries is they also have a vast inventory of books...Yeh man over 2,000,000 of the things in one building. Where was I going wrong, spending all that money in Borders on books when I could have spent it in Blockbuster or Netflixs instead, Oh the irony........
These global giants deserve your dumb ass money if your too lazy to wonder on down to your local library and utilise their free services. It's people like you who don't help the situation. If more people showed a hint of interest in a free service like your local library then maybe more investment would be forthcoming from the powers at be and maybe, just maybe one day your local will have an inventory of over 100,000 DVD's.
the-lyons-den.com said:I agree the library is probably a good source for certain titles, but hardly everything under the sun. Once a library collection exists where I can sign out independent and foreign films then there won't be a need for services like Netflix, unfortunately that isn't the reality of the situation.

Why pay a dime?? A library card is free....
Jim Brennan said:I disagree. I have yet to find a video that I CANNOT get from the library system. I even find rare out of print stuff through interlibrary loan.
Josh_Boelter said:I'd heard that Amazon was going to get into the DVD rental by mail business. Does anyone know if this is still in the plans for them? I don't see anything on their web site.
the-lyons-den.com said:OK,
ask your library for "Ôdishon" (Audition) by Miike, "November" by Harrison, "Un Chien Andalou" by Buñuel, "el Topo" by Jodorowsky, and "Attack of the Beast Creatures" (or "Hell Island") by Stanley. Let us know how you do.

dustino said:True, people like myself who support Netflix (and even Blockbuster on rare occasions in my past) are complicitly supporting all of the inherent evils of a devastatingly heartless global corporate culture. But, uh, so am I by supporting Panasonic. And the manufacturer of my computer. And the manufacturer of the boots I'm wearing right now.
dustino said:I suppose you, sir, live in a tent in the wilderness gloriously innocent of all the world's evil.
dustino said:I suppose the local library you support in no way contributes to corporate or governmental abuses with your tax dollars. It doesn't support a publishing industry which I'm sure only makes books with paper from environmentally friendly logging companies and paper manufacturers. I'm sure the adhesive chemicals used in the binding process of those "books" (or whatever those things were you refered to) are only produced in factories upholding the most stringent standards of labor and safety.
dustino said:I hate to even dignify the crass assumptions of someone expelling the hostile flatulence of their own self-loathing, but of course I advocate (and use) libraries. And your point that supporting one's library could help them compete with corporate services is a good one. (It seems, however, that the most beneficial support would be through either private donation or supporting candidates and/or referendums that funnelled tax dollars to libraries as opposed to simply checking out movies, but I'll grant you the point, anyway).
dustino said:It's not the recommendation of libraries that I took issue with, it was how comfortable you seem to be calling others "dumb" (which you've done again here) that proves much more about yourself than those you're trying to criticize. Self-righteousness is never flattering and the truly righteous never need to prove their enlightenment.
dustino said:Given that you're such a militant advocate of public services, perhaps you should see if your local Recreation Center offers yoga or tai chi classes - couldn't hurt...
