The most important accessories?

Okay, if you had to start over with nothing but your cam, what would be the top 5 accessories that you would buy?

An aside: Where can I get a good case? Is it worth to buy a hard case?

Re: The most important accessories?

casesforless.com ... absolute best prices on Pelican cases (yes they are worth it)

Re: The most important accessories?

1 UV filter to protect the lens
2 Bogen tripodwith 503 head
3 zoom control
4 ME66 or better mic/and a wireless set-up
5 matte Blox an inexpensive matte box system
There is my 2 cents 8)

Re: The most important accessories?

wow good list.. very close to mine "Elvis".

I started to reply but it reminded me of the big expensive pile of crap I never use sitting in my closet that I probally never ever use.

Re: The most important accessories?

hey tapes could be a good thing to consider buying with a new cam ;)

Re: The most important accessories?

i woulda said the same thing till hard disk recorders came into my life.

Re: The most important accessories?

Okay, so would you say the Pelican 1600 hard case is the way to go? Casesforless has them for about 118.

BTW, how does the foam work to give the camera a custom fit? Should I order extra foam to start?

Re: The most important accessories?

With the significant price difference between the 501 and 503 head, can you tell me in quasi "laymen's" terms what the differences are? Thanks...

Re: The most important accessories?

503 is a true fluid head. The 501 is a friction head even though it says like fluid movement. But if your on a budget it is a good place to start just ask John_Hudson! 8)

A 1600 would be okay, but it's going to be big. A 1550 or so would snugly fit the camera and some accessories. I have a 1620 (which is a 1610 with wheels) and it's MASSIVE. I fit the DVX, wide-angle, anamorphic, lens hood, 4 batteries, 5 tapes, power supply, zoom controller, flarebuster, firewire cables, UV filter, and probably some more stuff all in there... and still have room for the (eventual) telephoto lens and some other stuff.

As for extra foam, no need -- order pick 'n' pluck and it comes ready for you to customize it exactly the way you want. And if you make a mistake, you can always rubber-cement the foam back in place.

Re: The most important accessories?

Also check under "articles " for Pelican case cutout pattern. ;) I have the 1600 and it is huge! To big for a carry on. Something to think about if you are going to fly with it. 8)

Re: The most important accessories?

I think so, but you would have to compare them to airline specs. Anyone out there flown with one? Chime in! 8)
