"The more I look at it, the more powerful it becomes," commented Galvin...

I thought it was powerful because the guy was dead and it was during some war time. But he's asleep drunk, and supposed to depict the poor but he doesn't look so poor...

Am I missing something?

Maybe you REALLY need to understand the content.

1) That guy's going to wake up with bread-head...

2) Powerful? What? A shot of some guy loafing in the park?

3) This image shows at least two things guaranteed to be crusty.

4) Um, yeah, powerful... even if he WAS dead... The only way this picture could be powerful is with the headline, "bunny bread killer strikes again, city left in a state of wonder".

So I decide to click a link for "wins body of work prize"... ugh... more "great" photography. Do people BUY these awards? Check out this amazing image, from "life without light"... a nice, utility wide-to-normal shot. They should start giving out awards to traffic cameras. Capturing the elements of the place you happen to be standing in is no special feat... capturing the emotion, or feel, of that place... is. Who's judging these shots?

Any of the photos in the early photographers section at my local county fair displays more knowledge of composition and depth than either of those shots.
