The Milk Challenge

Hey everyone,

This may sound ridiculous, but me and six friends are attempting to drink a gallon of skim milk in under an hour, and keep it down another half hour. I'm sure I will throw up, but the bet is, whoever drinks the most of their gallon, wins the money. We are each putting in a designated amount. I can easily drink a half gallon of milk with no problem, and I often do. Every morning I have a quart of milk. I'm thinking that I would actually be able to get quite close to finishing the gallon. Would any of you have any tips about what I'm trying to do?

I'm probably going to eat a salad before, to expand my stomach; I read somewhere that competitive eaters often do this before competitions.

Some people say it is physically impossible, but I have seen one person do it, so I know that it is possible. Sorry for the extremely weird post...

You might do a google search on the woman that died from drinking water for a radio contest and see what her symptoms were, just in case. May the hydraulic force be with you.

I second that J Michael. People have died from simply drinking too much water. Or any fluid for that matter. Better do some hard research first. Perhaps ask your doctor his opinion. Is there a doctor in the house?

I have read about two different cases of women dying form drinking too much water. And in both cases, neither of them felt the urge to go to the restroom. My body will reject the milk before I somehow... die. The reason it is so hard is because of all the protein and fat in milk. Your body doesn't have time to digest these, as protein is extremely complex and hard to digest. I will vomit if anything, before dying. And, both women drank much more than a gallon of water.

Errr......skim milk has NO fat, ipso facto.

Yes I wasn't sure if it was just water or all liquids. So looks like the barf fest is a go. Hey how about this. Instead of skim milk, how about a cup or two of week-old-milk-sittin-in-the-sun-en-turning-real-bad-sour-like. The good thick and chunky stuff.
Hell, I'd pay just to see ya hold a cup of that stuff down for more than 20 seconds. I know I'd barf long before it hit bottom.

Still from the above link, water wise... quote:
A person with two healthy kidneys can excrete about 900ml (0.24 gal)/hr. Consuming as little as 1.8 litres of water (0.48 gal) in a single sitting may prove fatal for a person adhering to a low-sodium diet, or 3 litres (0.79 gallons) for a person on a normal diet.

There's some other bet like this about saltine crackers... I think the bet is that you can't eat 6 saltine crackers in 1 minute... with no water once the minute begins.

We laughed our butts off watching people try to do it... everybody THINKS they can do it... and then what's really crazy is this one friend of mine CAN.

6 saltines in 60 seconds... try it.

Maybe after you finish that one you can do the Milk Challenge... all that's left is to come up with one more thing for your triathalon.

Heh, my best friend actually completed the saltine cracker thing, but it was 7 crackers when we heard about it. And as far as the milk challenge, I got to about a quarter left with around 4 minutes. I decided to just chug it, didn't work too well! It was actually really fun/funny to watch 9 of my friends attempt this.

One of my friends completed the gallon, but around a minute later, it all came back up

I'd edit that as if you told a good joke and at first it was only coming out his nose... I should have told you sooner to set up a shot complete with the cute little half-pint milk cartons, like from elementary school... then you tell some stupid joke and the guy pukes up an entire gallon of milk.

I guess my sense of humor is warped... because just thinking about it has me laughing.

Another possibility would have been to do a fake commercial for the Dairy Council... "Got Milk"... the possibilities are endless.

I got another one that's killing me... but I can't post it... the basis is from Stacey's Mom...

Ok, here is a brief science lesson...... Lactose is in Milk.... Lactose, Glucose, and all those other sugars (_ose's) need enzymes in the body to break them down. The body cannot produce enough enzymes to break one gallon of milk (lactose) within that short amount of time. Therefore the body WILL reject the milk. It is not a matter of stomach size, although for volume sake, a bigger guy would be ideal.

Lactose intollerant people suffer from lacking the enzyme needed to digest lactose. But in the gallon in a half hour or hour challenge, you are just superceeding the maximum amount the enzymes can handle.

I've personally tried. I was 90% finished when it decided to reverse direction.

On the positive side, it should not be possible to die of over hydration from One gallon.

So it is almost impossible scientifically.... unless you are a freak and produce EXTRA lactose enzymes.
