Hey guys, look what I just stumbled across...

I think in coming years, we will se more theories and discoveries of this sort, as the archives are slowly opened up and investigations progress. I was in Prague last November shooting mostly interviews for my documentary 'Dance on Thin Ice'. The main stimulus for the doc was the discovery that my aunt was once married to a political prisoner of eleven years, a leading dissident writer. I have to say, fifteen years after the regime's fall, pulling information out of people is like getting fleas out of a wool blanket. And my subject is small stuff compared to the Korean and Vietnam wars POWs.

It will be interesting to follow the development of that story...

Re: The Manchurian Candidate?

Yes, all sorts of terrible things happened then and now. What does it take to make a suicide bomber, a terrorist, etc... how about the guys in Russia killing all the children, something got into their brain. History is repleat with this.

The Manchurian Candidate, the new version, was pretty good for me because it brought out the paranoia of not knowing what's what and who's on whose side. Unfortunately reality is much stranger.

There are amazing stories of brainwashing by the Communist Chinese. One guy told me about being in the big red square parades and wanting so badly to die for Mao, they loved the bomb. In one incident he watched as a truck drove through a large crowd in a city during the Cultural revoltion of the 60s and these guys were hanging off the truck swinging swords, chopping limbs off. I asked him if he was scared, he replied, no,  a big smile came to his face, "it was fun!"

My uncle told me about the 800 mile retreat he & his buddies made in Korea. Everyday new hordes would attack and they'd cut-em down. Those that turned back were shot by their own people on the other side of the hill. they didn't lose one sailor in his little group, tha Marines taught em how to shoot.

My father was a WWII vet in a bomber, some of the guys he knew flew planes in the lend lease deal to Russia and never came back, though they never crashed or were shot down.

One guy we knew was shot out his B-17, the front shot off by Flak, and he wasn't wearing his chute, he's falling through the air and his chute came down next to him, he grabbed it, put it on and was captured. That's a true story.

My friend's dad made the Battan death march and worked the slave mines of Yokohama & survived B-29 raids lying face down in a rice paddy. He was fun to watch WWII movies with because he would scream at how fake the movie was. He told me usually when a guy got shot in the arm it blew off his arm. thanks!

Another hgh school friend's dad was a German Tank Commander and was captured by the Russians, he escaped but was wounded, he ended up being nourished back to health by a family, later he came back after the war & ended up marrying the daughter ( my friend's mother) After the russian capture he was captured by the Americans, who klled his buddy during interogation. They were both Waffen SS. I undestand it became common to shoot SS because they would end up killing our guards. You don't ever here about that these days! Anyways he lived!

My Great Great Great granda father was a sailing ship captain & one day off the east coast, Carolinas? they caught some Pirates (1790s), they escaped that night and killed most of the crew, knifed-em in their sleep. He lived in the captains quarters, he survived.

Another great grandfather when he was akid they circled the wagons & survived an Indian attack in their covered wagons shooting at em...... the stories go on & on...

Vietnam: my cousin, a 2 x SEAL use to sneak up north to cause really ugly trouble, no one wats to hear this stuff. They once took one our pilots into Red China and stole a MIG jet so we could test it out & see what they had.

A co-worker ended up going to desert storm 1991. He drove fuel trucks. One night somewhere in the Saudi/ Kuwaiti desert they were stopped by British SAS. these guy are real serious types. They told em to hurry, dismount & grab your rifles. They got ready, over the hill came 100-200 Iraqi soldiers....they cut down in 5 seconds, really sick stuff, but it's war.

I could go on & on, and they're all true!

This is what makes interesting stories and can make good movies, unfortunately they are based on real events, often ugly.
