IMHO this movie SUCKED!

Re: the machinist

Thats nice to know. I saw the previews and I thought it looked so good that I was planning on driving to a theater about an hour away to check it out. Thanks for the heads up, I'll wait for it to come out on video.

Re: the machinist

I didn't think it was that bad - but it was a disapointment.

I agree wholeheartedly with lincolnlog's review (except the degree to which I disliked it).

Re: the machinist

Sucks that the film sucks, especially for Christian Bale. He picked the wrong film to go Raging Bull on.

I saw this today on DVD (just came out today) and i thought it was very good.

I was a fan as well of "Session 9", I HIGHLY recommend this one if you liked Session 9 and director Brad Anderson's style.

Bale is about to explode and this film is just another great job by him. Too bad you guys didn't like it, oh well, at least everyone should be able to appreciate the cinematography, which I thought was top-notch.

sucks that he starved to near death and the movie sucked eh? But neverthless the man has dedication to his art.

Not that I'm trying to defend it, but I don't think they were ever trying to hide the fact that what you think during the entire movie is what is taking place. I think all the clues are there so we can figure it out along the way, not a "didn't see that coming" sort of thing.

The cinematography is amazing. It's worth a rental if you are into lighting and great camera work.
Bale's performance is great... especially his transformation.

I never once questioned what was going on. I never once was confused, or on the edge of my seat. But, I still liked it. It won't have a lasting impression on me like Sixth Sense or another great plot twist movie, but if you aren't waiting for the big reveal I think you can enjoy this film.

lincolnlog - if you hated this, make sure to skip "The Jacket".

Watched it tonight on DVD. Lighting and camera-work are absolutely top notch. Beautiful range of colors and cine-styles.

I did feel the movie broke down a little toward the end. The plot became somewhat weak I suppose.

Overall, I did really enjoy it, and I thought the "Making of" Featurette was very informative as well. I'll give it a *B-*
