The Letus Ultimate -- Experience Thread

Just saw them. They're looking good! Lighting is pretty nice and looks like it fits the piece.

I forgot TimeFest was on the horizon. Doh.

I remember someone asking about EX-1 Footage + Ultimate. Good news: I locked down an EX-1 from a certain someone and I also have an EX-1 ring for my Ultimate. Hopefully get a chance to shoot something to post up for you guys that were wondering.

Kholi, where can I find the redrock riser? Your setup seems ideal. I need to upgrade my Cavision setup and Zacuto proves to be too expensive for me. I just finished setting up my school's EX1+LEX+Zacuto rig today, and for the price they paid I'm not convinced it is the appropriate setup for myself.

Can't wait to see the footage, but I definitely appreciate the stills you've posted. Keep it up, friend.

Trudd you can go straight to the Redrock Micro page I think and click on the support section. It should be under there. If you can't find it email Brian@redrockmicro.com and he'll point you in the right direction.

I agree that the Zacuto setup just doesn't seem to be the way for me either, and that it's quite expensive. Other users are having success though so that means there are still options. The Redrock Riser is extremely solid, though and you get to go back to the quick release system instead of being locked into the setup like the Cavision.

I own a Redrock rails support plate and they would not sell me a separate riser. Frankly it really Teed me off as I bought the rod system from them for close to $300 as i recall.
They said they only made as many as they made flip units and could not sell me one separately.

I see they didn't mind selling one to you Kholi even though you apparently didn't buy their adapter either.

That kind of support does not endear me.

Hey Leni,

sorry for the confusion. I actually bought the entire setup. A quick release plate, the riser and the RR baseplate.

Again, sorry for the confusion. I had to have ti all, naturally, since I only owned a set of RR rails to begin with but no rod support system. Hope that clears it up! I think they should start manufacturing a decent amount, though. As flipped units become popular we ALL want something stable to use and the riser is as solid as the Letus Extreme and Ultimate bodies. It's actually a really good match although a separate brand.

Go figure.

I'm gonna put in my vote to sell the RR rod support with riser separately. Seems that there might be more interest in those pieces than initially thought.

Especially loved the last one, Philip. I still don't understand how you are able to shoot so freely in public. Maybe we have too many paranoid parents in the states.

Hey you guys, update on the Redrock Riser portion. Straight from Brian himself:

It is just a timing thing. We are working on putting that into our catalog as we speak.

So you can expect to be able to purchase the riser separately, although I would recommend just grabbing the entire RR Suppor Assembly for maximum compatibility. You can adjust the riser left to right where it sits on the baseplate and everything's the perfect height without shims which is pretty amazing.

So there ya have it! Go Redrock!

Kholi,

Well I'm glad to hear that from Brian himself.

I also bought the rod support rails and quick release but I bought it last year. About 6 weeks ago they told me they only made as many as they made flip units and that was that. You could only get it if you bought a riser together with their flip. They did leave the door open to eventually being able to sell them separately though so maybe they got caught up.

Thanks,

Southend was shot on three different zoom lenses.

80-200mm f2.8 nikon 17-35mm f2.8 nikon and 135-400mm f4.5-5.6 Sigma

Slow motion was 720p overcranked to 60fps stuck on a 1080p 25p timeline

it is fine. Seems pretty sharp. Pretty good for the price. Would like a f2.8 all the way through but that is enormously expensive and very very heavy

Kay sorry, there's the link. Quick last minute deal yesterday morning that I can actually share. Nothing crazy special but again I'd rather post this than flowers and trees, personally.

Might have some more tonight as well from the EX-1 + Ultimate (THAT might be flowers and trees) and HF10 + Ultimate.

can you put up a 720?
but I am not expecting you to... I too am busy now, filling in all of the SAG paperwork for my short.

The Vimeo link is Hi-Def. Make sure HD is turned on and those four little arrows on the bottom right corner allow you to make it full screen.

i gotta say, although the ultimate is very impressive. IT still renders a slightly hazy bokeh, not as nice as the sgpro.

Now i'm looking forward ot the blade ( hope the price is nice :) )

Any blow-out will haze bokeh. This is true with the SGPro and every adapter known to this niche. Bokeh rendition depends on more than just a ground glass. This includes distance from subject, iris blade count, iris stop, lens coating, the amount of light in comparison to subject and background and more.

What the SGPro's thicker ground glass will do is help diffuse blow-out faster than any thinner counter part.

If you'd like I wouldn't have a problem posting full resolution samples of what people here consider "bad bokeh" from many top dollar movies. It's more than just the ground glass.

But I digress. :B If people are paying more attention to the background than the actual subject then I need to go back to naked camera to learn a few things.

Quality of the image looks pretty good. It has a nice... "thickness" to it (for lack of a better word) that is appealing and is not apparent when I compare it to another of your vimeo postings there that was shot with the extreme and original HVX..

Certainly an attractive picture.

Side note: So, Kholi... Did the 200a repair your hate for the noise of the original HVX? Used to be something I saw you complain about a lot in the past, so just curious how you feel about the noise levels of the 200a in comparison.... Night and day? Won you over again? A lot better? A little better?

Later,
Jason
