The Killing

i've been going through a noir phase lately and, oh my god, this movie is f-ing awesome. why is it not in the kubrick collection? it is definitely my favorite of his. very intricate, non-linear story of a racetrack heist with very good acting. and sterling hayden is a badass. if you haven't seen it, check out The Killing; i highly recommend it.

huston stuff- maltese falcon, i love asphault jungle (more badass sterling hayden). i love eddie g robinson- double indemnity, the stranger, key largo. just about anything by fritz lang- fury, house by the river. and especially the ones by lang with robinson- Scarlet Street and the Woman in the Window. There's a couple i have been really struggling to find copies of: House of Strangers (Eddie G won best actor at Cannes) and Ace In The Hole (aka Big Carnival) by Billy Wilder. I've found a couple VHS copies of HOS for like $35+ but i can't find Ace In The Hole ANYWHERE. I think its really interesting that most of the better noirs were made by german directors in america- lang, wilder, siodmak, dmytryk... i can't get enough of this noir stuff! which ones do you like?

Sterling Hayden does indeed kick ass!

They just don't make movies like that anymore. It's a damn shame.
