The Jungle Book

I enjoyed this a lot. Much more faithful to the classic Disney animated film than I was expecting, while still feeling a lot more modern in terms of action and thrills. Very much felt like an animated title, aside from the live-action Mowgli. The CG animals were great, though I did notice occasional artifacts and aliasing, which hopefully they will fix before the home video release. Voice casting was great across the board.

However, I would not recommend going to this before an 8pm or later showing, unless you enjoy having kids talking / yelling through the entire film. Went to a 7pm showing last night, and in the row in front of me a couple had brought two girls who couldn't have been more than 2-4 years old, who yelled and ran around through the entire film.

I'm looking forward to it.
Definitely the 10pm showing at the theater that serves booze.

I'm glad to hear it has that "Animated" feel to it.
The trailer looked a little like an overdone live action with too much CGI.
But if they played up the "not-realistic" feel of the animals than it should be great.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would as well. The special effects work is staggering, and it's a pleasure to see a simple story, well told. I was genuinely on the edge of my seat during some of the action sequences and really feared the villain. Yeah, this has a lot of CGI because it's all CGI. The kid, the ground and maybe some of the props are the only real things. What there isn't is CGI in place of good characterization and good drama, two things this movie has plenty of. And it's some of the best CGI I've ever seen. They took an overall pretty grounded approach to the camerawork, and the CGI lighting was never too artificially perfect.

Loved it. I forgot that the animals weren't real (until they talked, of course).

SPOILER: (odd to have a spoiler alert for a remake of a film almost 50 years old): I didn't see this mentioned in any of the reviews - but I hope everyone notices the cowbell.
My wife and I just about fell out of our seats laughing!

I've never read the Kipling Jungle Book stories, but the 1967 Disney version is my favorite animated movie.
I liked this new film overall, but I still prefer the 1967 version.

The casting was alright, but I would have preferred:
John Rhys-Davies as Bagheera
James Earl Jones as Shere Khan
Jeremy Irons as Kaa

They didn't really do anything with Colonel Hathi (my favorite character); although I'm not sure how significant he was in the books.
