The Informant!

So... anyone see it yet?

I'm curious to hear people's thoughts.
I hadn't seen any trailers...hadn't heard anything about it - and I just saw it last night.
So I had no idea what to expect.

I really enjoyed it - the tone was odd, which I liked...
it was a bit disjointed -but I actually think that worked to its advantage.

Thoughts?

Saw it last night.

His inner monologue was amazing. It had everyone laughing.

Otherwise, I can't make up my mind wether I liked it or not. The cinematography looked, strange. But not really a distractor, more of a note. It felt long and slow, and there was an awful lot of talking.

But it made me laugh, yet, I was getting bored and wanted to go to sleep. So I don't know. I'm totally on the fence.

I give it a thumbs-up. I wish Matt Damon would take on more roles where he looks more like me, and less like Matt Damon. It helps my self-esteem.

Actually listening to 'This American Life' right now - which is all about the real story of Mark Whitacre.... amazing how much of the stuff in that film was actually spot on.
(much was fictionalized...)

Overall - I have to say I really enjoyed the movie - it was different, it was fun, and at the same time fascinating as the portrait of one man.

SOMEWHAT SPOILER BELOW:

The thing I find fascinating is having a protagonist that becomes less and less credible as the story goes on...and therefore less and less likeable to most people. I think that's why so many people seem to be on the fence about this movie - Matt Damon's character isn't really someone we want to cheer for... but I did think he was fascinating.

Great movie overall.

couldn't help but to love the whole late 80's cheap vhs quality glow feel put into the film... And yet it was shot with a RED!

I thought it was funny for the first 1/2(monolgue), but the second half was depressing left me feeling a little miserable, which would have been ok but I felt like I learned NOTHING about Mark Whitacre except that he was a pathological liar. I never really felt like I knew him or what made him tick.

Everybody was manipulating everybody, so by the end I loathed all of the characters, which would have been OK if there was some transcendent truths, etc.

I didn't hate it. The acting was great. The story left me really cold, however. Maybe I should listen to the This American Life episode instead...maybe it is a better format for the story.

That's actually part of why I enjoyed the film - I thought it was interesting to take your protagonist, make him likeable, then work as hard as you can to make the audience turn on him.... I felt very conflicted while watching it... I kept wanting to be able to pull for him... but by the end I really couldn't.

I don't know - it was different... and if for nothing else, I appreciated it for that.
But I'm with you - there is a definite shift in tone... and I'm not quite sure it works, but it at least made it kind of interesting from a story structure point of view )to me anyhow).

Whitacre, he appears as misdirected but a corporate thief never the less, and there's Marvin Hamlish with his funny band, in there right from the start. It sounded odd because no one on screen yakked it up or really smiled for the first half.

The early monlogues should have matching footage of Damon to help them all get established.

Yes there was a definite shift in tone, which they should have smoothed out or at least patted down a bit. Can't believe they didn't see it .. either no budget or it was too late.

Good casting, acting, a tad too long, no I wouldn't recommend it. Cheers.
