The inevitable has happened.

That's a pretty close look.

If we're going by looks, Fred Armisen should have Gilligan locked--

I wouldn't mind a new Wizard of Oz film, if were actually a reasonably accurate adaptation of the book rather than the technicolor monstrosity to which we're subjected every Thanksgiving...

But I like the technicolor monstrosity.

Well, you're still welcome to pop Dark Side of the Moon in the stereo and enjoy it to yer heart's content...

I also like the technicolor monstrosity on its own terms...I would rather see them do Wicked.

Ugh...don't get me started on "Wicked." It's as though it was conceived to finish off the hatchet job that the movie started...

If I had to do an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, I'd do a sci-fi version loosely based on the 1939 film.

Instead of a tornado, Dorothy could travel to some strange planet by way of a wormhole. The Tin Man would obviously be a robot, the Cowardly Lion some sort of half-human/half-feline genetic hybrid or alien (a little Avatar homage anyone?). The scarecrow could be a sentient alien plant that can take human form, among others. Toto would be a little companion robot, or maybe Dorothy's child or younger brother. Maybe he's a sort of R2D2 bot that is needed for Dorothy to restart her ship and leave this strange planet of Oz?

As for the Wizard, he might have technology that can influence or rewrite the dreams and memory of the inhabitants of Oz, thus making him a god-like being. The Wicked Witch could be a green humanoid alien that has an army of flying alien creatures. No need to fix what isn't broken in this case. And finally, Emerald City could be a city literally carved out of a vast deposit of emerald colored alien crystal (it would have a Fortress of Solitude type feel to it).

Or instead of the wormhole leading to another planet, maybe it leads to an Oz that is a parallel Earth; one that developed on a totally different evolutionary path hundreds of thousands of years ago?

I suppose Gilligan's Island could be adapted as a sci-fi story too.

I just hope I haven't ruined Sad Max's day with my convoluted sci-fi Wizard of Oz idea.
