The immediacy of the image in video

So I was talking to a friend of mine about how he prefers practical effects to computer generated special effects because it's something someone made with their hands and you can see it right in front of you.

This reminded me of something Ellen Kuras said about video and how the immediacy of the image, seeing a close approximation of your final image while the actuality is in front of you causes you to shoot a little bit differently.

Anyway, it seemed to me interesting that he didn't embrace video when the same argument could be applied as to why shooting digitally would be more desirable.

(of course he's probablly just being a luddite)
