the image looks "Stretched"

I shot footage using the hvx. I shot on tape and it was 4:3 and I shot 24 fps. I was capturing the tape footage onto Vegas 7 and it ended up looking more stretched out than the original footage. Now my actors look like they gained 15 lbs. Any ideas or suggestion for a rookie? Thanks.

I put the capture settings on dv 24 fps/no widescreen

There are no capture settings.

What's your preview window setting -- simulate device aspect ratio? If not, choose it.

What's your timeline setting?

Right-click on the clips and go to Properties -- what's the pixel aspect ratio?
