The Human Cost of Electronics

Someone sent me this short doc on the cost of making electronics, thought I would also share it here.

I might not need the new iphone 6 this summer. I think the 5 is still good right?

well the figures are not on the good side.
Apple sold about 33 million of iphone in 2013. So if you need to kill a chinese worker for each iphone produced, it is still nothing
compared to the chinese population (1300 millions ). so 33 millions is less than 3% of total population.
in the video they said about 200 millions of worker are sick, so it is already much more than the 33 millions of iphone produced.

Then saying that 1 iphone for one life is not so far from the truth.
When numbers start to blow the ceiling, 1 life is nothing.

Sorry, I am having some trouble understanding this reply.

Who needs to be responsible when there's entertainment to be had?

Yeah, I don't understand modernity either.

the meaning of the answer was: hey man, reality check! Capitalism has already made the choice for you.
if they have to kill 1 chinese to sell 1 iphone, it is still very acceptable. After all you jump everyday in your car knowing
that annually 2.2% of all the death in the world are due to a car accident. And nobody really cares about that.
There are probably more people dying in the world to provides you coffee or cornflakes, than for for your TV set or smartphone, but who cares...

Look at pollution peak listed every day in the world , the human is made so, that he will pollute until it will start to die of it.
Strangely, that is usually the ones that get the best information about this who care the less, they have too much too loose and after all, it always happens elsewhere.
Ever heard somebody speaks about "crisis". Well it was probably about economical crisis. All he rest is just statistics and colateral damage.
The world is based on Economics.
Every American President nagged it: "we will fight to keep our lifestyles" , while obviously this standard of living requires
many people to die to produce silly, useless goods. And worse, this "no futur" lifsyle is set as the standard to reach by everybody.

1. No Politics
We've tried it and it doesn't work. There are many other sites where you can discuss politics, just not this one.
'Politics' includes not only directly political content, but any controversial topics, current affairs, or other news-related issues. If you see something non-film-making related reported in the media, and you know there are strong feelings about it on either side of the issue, please do not bring it up here. The 'no politics' rule also extends to discussing the political content of films and television shows, or to videos with political content, even if posted for a video-related purpose. The Mod staff may grant very limited, specific exceptions in cases of exceptional film-related interest, but only with prior approval, and any such thread will be heavily moderated. Moderators will make the final decision as to whether or not a specific post belongs on this site.
