The Human Centipede (First Sequence)

I saw the trailer a while back and laughed a few times. It looked ridiculous to me, bordering on moronic.

I don't plan on seeing this one. Doesn't interest me at all beyond making this post.

THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE is absolutely fantastic.

I watched this at the stockholm festival in november and was blown away. One of the most memorable film experiences of 2009.

I remember reading somewhere a while back that the first sequence was supposed to get the audience acquainted with the level of disturbitude and hook a following for a even more sick and demented sequel. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Tom Six has stated that the first film in effect will serve to get audiences used to the idea of a human centipede, preparing them for the idea of a much more graphic and disturbing sequel, 'First Sequence' being My Little Pony compared with part two."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hu...e-bloody_disgusting_tom_six_video_interview-4 The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) has been planned for theaters in 2011. Full Sequence will supposedly include a centipede composed of twelve individuals.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hu...nce)#cite_note-dreadcentral-sequel_details-32

Saw this Saturday night at E Street Cinema. Not something I'd normally go for, but one of the leads is a friend of mine. The performances were great and it was pretty well done, but it is definitely not for the faint of heart. I cannot (and do not want to) comprehend a 12 person human centipede.

I've always loved surgical horror movies, even Hostel's storyline was very unrealistic, but it was one of the most horrifying and well done horror films I've ever seen. If a movie can take you to a place where horrific events seem possible, then I think it's a good movie. Hope that happens with this film too, although the preview doesn't really seem to convey the sense of dread and horror that I'm used to.

My main issue with "Centipede" isn't the subject matter, or even the creepy factor. The problem, I think, is that Six made the "doctor" so over-the-top monstrous it creates too much distance between movie horror and our reality.

Don't get me wrong, Dieter Laser does a great job as Heiter, I just think Six pushed it so far that it becomes horror movie caricature, and the impact of what Heiter does is lessened because of it.

I think Human Centipede terrified me because the villain completely strips the victims' humanity away, making them something other than human, an abomination. And there isn't a lot they can do to regain their humanity. That is a terrifying concept. It's really awful.

I have to say Dieter Laser's performance as the villain definitely makes for one of the most evil villains in cinematic history.

I can see what you're saying. He is almost TOO weird. Hard to believe the guy ever functioned in society as a premiere surgeon.

This seems like a better idea for a short film, but not a feature.

I'm going to have to take a similar stance here, as I'm not really a huge fan of this type of horror (Saw, Hostel). I'm not afraid of gore, in fact, I enjoy silly way over the top gore films like Scanners, Troma's stuff, Evil Dead, or Dead Alive type of splatter-comedy. So I guess Human Centipede is just not aimed at me. Although, Scanners is more sci-fi thriller than horror.

Give me Rosemary's Baby, The Fly, The Brood, The Ring, Sixth Sense, Alien, or any other type of horror or suspense film that relies on building suspense and mood over shock value, and I'll be happy.

I'm not sure I'd lump this one in with Saw and Hostel. Honestly, there really isn't nearly as much gore/torture as in those films. This one is far more psychological. I mean, yes, we do see some unpleasantness, to be sure. But in those films, the amount and graphic detail of the torture was the point. Human Centipede is a skin-crawler, but it didn't really engage my gag reflex from a gore standpoint.

No way in hell I'm gonna click that link. One of my friends told me about this last year and I almost banned him from life for even mentioning it.

Wow, I didn't realize I was so "faint of heart". That trailer has to be one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. (Torture porn ain't my thang. To each his own.)

Memo to the director: Were you seeking shock value? Mission accomplished!

I actually liked Eli Roth's writing in Hostel and enjoyed some of the character development and simplicity in Saw (though the sequels are terrible).

The human centipede was just depressing. The characters made no sense and the story was unenticing. I really hated this film.
