... know what I'd like to see?
George Lucas producing an original story ... written and directed by James Cameron.
I have NO idea what that would become
very expensive?

Worst rumor of all time. Brett Ratner in the running to direct The Hobbit. I'm sure this is more his publicist wanting it to happen but still, sends shivers up the spine--

You know what I'd like to see?
George Lucas producing an original story concept he's come up with, written and directed by James Cameron.
I have NO idea what that would become, but I'm sure it'd make twice as much money as Avatar and be the most profitable film in the history of ever.

I wonder if he will be utilizing "Clarice" (his RED camera) for much of the shoot?
do they really even need to do this film?
Uh, if you were staring a couple billion dollars worth of guaranteed profit right in the face, I think you'd say yes.
he seems to be eagerly awaiting epic... could be a chance of that if the stars were all aligned properly
Insiders say the next few days will be crucial in the negotiating process between Jackson's camp and the Warners/New Line side.
That's no understatement. If the studios can't get this knot untied soon, and have to tell Jackson to just wait for the MGM thing to work itself out, then I bet The Hobbit will be dead for a long time. Even if they eventually get the project going again years from now, who knows who will be producing and directing?
Hopefully this works out and we can hear an official announcement in a few days, one that states that Jackson is directing.
It's going to happen, it's all down hill for them from here. Crazy how so many fund managers all crawl out of the woodwork wanting to back it with a bankrupt studio. That's Peter Jackson for you, the man!
Zemeckis or Dante could do it and make it great, at least when they were on top of their game. You're right though. If Peter Jackson bails out then who do they go to? Brett Ratner? Bryan Singer? Nolan (who wouldn't do it anyways)? Wachowski Bros. (I love those crazy cats' films, but they're not right for this)? Spielberg? Danny Boyle (great director, not right for this)? Ridley Scott? Neill Blomkamp? Whoever they got instead of Del Toro or Jackson, the fan backlash would be so great that it wouldn't be worth the effort.
Well, they could always hire Ridley Scott and he could do to The Hobbit what he did to Nottingham (Robin Hood).![]()
