The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

After consuming the final chapter in The Hobbit trilogy I only have one thought.

I will always be grateful to Peter Jackson for having made the original trilogy.

I'm a HUGE Tolkein geek... and just got exhausted less than halfway through. Just not a very fun movie.

I thought it was better than the first two, in that it didn't feel like so much of a chore to sit through. The film moved but it's a bloated mess. Bilbo always felt like a third wheel. The action got preposterous towards the end (Legolas pushing off falling stones in mid-air!?). And I thought the turn Thorin's character took seemed too abrupt, and his turn back as well. Look forward to a fan edit although I'm not convinced it will solve some of the main story problems.

The armies all looked the same; the ruins all looked the same; very difficult to keep track of what was what. Peter Jackson has no internal sense of when something's gone on for too long, so combined, it made it pretty hard to watch. Can't imagine ever watching again.
