The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

I want so bad to love this, but I'm afraid I'm only at a "like" stage right now. This makes me sad, but I think I'll still love the movie (same feeling with TDKR's latest trailer).

I am really rooting for this film as well. The trailer made it look boring, but that is coming from a guy who never read the books, and loved the epic battles from the films, especially Helms Deep.

I know there will be action scenes, but so far all I know is that this film is 3D, and based off the trailer I just watched, I'm likely to just see lots of chubby Hobbit bellies popping off the screen.

With all the concern about the 48fps Red Epic cinematography, it looks virtually indistinguishable from the first three. I liked this trailer. It's better than the first LOTR trailer was, which I recall was pretty underwhelming. The subsequent trailers were much better. It's a long way between now and next December so I'm sure we'll see quite a few more. Actually, it's pretty impressive they showed as much as they did for a first, early trailer.

I'm really, really excited for the film itself, but this trailer just doesn't do it for me. A little bit, sure, I'm just not amazed.

Does anyone on DVXuser know how to search? There is already a huge thread on The Hobbit... this section in particular is constantly filled with reposts.

Lol, Ive just never been to a subforum that has so many reposts. This one stands out because the other thread is like 10 pages long..

Yeah, honestly not sure about my reasoning last night. I knew the other thread existed, but for some reason I was thinking it was in the Café a la DVX like the original Expendables 2 thread (the cafe thread being about the poster for TE2, and the film discussion thread being for updates/reviews of the film itself).

So... nothing is really happening on the other thread about the trailer...

Anyway, my 2 cents: I thought it was great. What especially stood out to me was how it wasn't really employing many of the 3D gimmicks you'd expect. I mean, you can usually see if a film was shot in 3D in the way everything is usually coming towards the screen and popping out. So it looks like PJ is going more for depth in the image by using 3D more than anything else. It feels like it was shot for 2D, but we all know it wasn't.

I doubt the 48fps thing matters much at the moment, since the trailer is 24fps. We would only notice anything, if at all, when we watch it projected at 48fps.

I'm giving 3-D a go with it just because I want to see if 48fps really enhances it. Curious to see what it looks like.

I want to see it 3D, 48fps, and on a 4k digital projector. Might as well go all out and see if the hype means something or not.
