The Hills Have Eyes

J.R. Hudson

Spirit Animal
This film was a nice surprise!

Alexandre Aja is a talent I was not aware of (Now I must rent Haute tension). This is a great cast and dialogue that comes across as natural and the effects are 'Wow!'. Dan Byrd is a nice talent who was the only good thing about Tobe Hooper's MORTURARY

Gory gory gory and much more violent that I ever thought it would be; showing and offing charcters not only do you think will get offed but in a manner and without hesitation BAM !

This is a solid horror film, and unlike the crapfest hypeshitpile of Eli Roth and his Hostel, this film delievered some good scares and great tension .

Not perfect by any account and has some flaws (an expostional scene between a Mutant we'll call "Check out the Big Brain on Brad'' , some dog heroics that come from no where and I never felt attached the characters emotionally, but .......

Totally a worthy rental and I am not sure I would have been bummed if I saw in the theatres; probably not. This film kicks ass. First rate horror.

Surpsing detail:

Filmed in Morocco - never would have guessed.

Hahaha. I brought it home and my daughter talked me into taking it back to the store before I opened it...

She saw it in the theaters and told me in no uncertain terms, "IT SUCKS."

But I wouldn't know since I took it back...:undecided

I totally think Aja has the goods to be one of the horror greats.

He's just not there yet.

I think its his endings that really need a good bit of work.

But in terms of style and atmosphere he has got it nailed.

And i love that he has the cojones to do things to his characters that are horrific.

He's everything that overrated dipshi* Roth is not.

However he's yet to produce something as good as Devil's Rejects or classic as Halloween.

But i maintain hope that he will.

John wait till you see the home invasion in Haute Tension i think its probably the best 20 minutes or so of horror produced in the past decade.

Bar None.

I saw Haute Tension when it first came out and really liked it.

I bought it and liked it more the second and third times I watched it.

Definitely a few plot holes but it has a good "vintage" horror quality to it.

You'll like it John.
