I am going to buy a Mac Pro 8-core system here soon...and I'm trying to figure out if I should stay with the standard ATI Radeon 2600 card or upgrade to the NVidia GeForce 8800 GT. For the purposes of Final Cut Studio 2, I have heard differing opinions from reviewers on what gives you more bang for the buck. Yes, the 8800 is 512MB and the 2600 is 256MB, but apparently it isn't that simple.
Anyone have any advice? I may want to run 3DS Max on this later (which utilizes OpenGL)...so perhaps the 'Gamer' card (8800) would be more forward thinking? Or is it not going to make a huge difference? For my purposes right now, I'm just interested in working as fast as possible with Apple Pro-Rez 422 as well as uncompressed 1080p throughout the FC Studio (FCP, Motion, Color, etc). Thanks for any advice.
