The Golden Age

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
Good stuff.

Not great stuff, like Elizabeth, but still worth seeing.

More soapy than the first film, and too heavy on the mostly-speculative relationship between Elizabeth and Raleigh, but beautifully realized and full of fun little historical details for those paying attention. Certainly the best work Guy has done, so far; possibly the best work he's going to do. I don't remember seeing a film that made such extraordinary use of architecture as an adjunct to storytelling.

It's a movie more than a film, but it's good stuff and if Kapur gets to do the third film he wants to do, I'll sure go see it.

In the ads, it sure seems like her performance changed between movies. Instead of portraying Elizabeth, she seems to be portraying Kate Hepburn playing Elizabeth.

^^ aw, now I'm all hungry...

The portrayal is actually pretty contiguous, although the depiction of Elizabeth as an emotionally starved, isolated figure is more emphasized in G.A. than in the first film.
