The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher, 2011)

Recently watched the original after seeing the remake. I liked the original version much better. The story was more coherent and there were scenes missing from the remake that made it seem more disjointed. The remake also went more into the subplot about the evil guy that's in charge of the money for Lisbeth, and that was just unnecessary to the story.

I found this film surprisingly forgettable. All the pieces are there, it's really well made and polished, but I found myself not giving it a second thought after seeing it. Just kind of meh. Lots of window decoration but zero suspense or sense of anticipation.

Agree completely. It was a good film, I can't deny that, but to me the mark of a great film is when I can't get it out of my mind. And this film left my mind 10 minutes after seeing it (as opposed to Finchers previous work, Social Network, which I couldn't stop talking about for months)

I think that has more to do with the bleak nature of it. There's just not a lot about it besides the craft of it that would keep me talking about it. With The Social Network I had great characters who were funny and great scenes that were witty so it was easy to keep thinking and talking about the movie, and we use Facebook every day (at least I do) so it kept it all fresh and me thinking about it.

Someone sent those pictures/paintings to the old man. Weren't they traceable? No envelope, no registry in the post office?

I rolled my eyes and actually had to pause it at that moment to get my reaction out. They might as well have had an airplane with a streaming banner running through the screen saying "SHE'S STILL ALIVE!!!!"

Black Swan was pretty bleak and that had me talking for weeks. Plenty of bleak films make a mark, this one just completely missed the bullseye for me.

Saw this last night. Glad I didn't see the original or read the book because I enjoyed this movie.

I can understand where some of you are coming from though.

I didn't have a problem with the Hollywood version, having read the books, and seen the swedish trilogy... I'd like to see the remaining two done by Hollywood as well...
