The Friday the 13th Film Series

J.R. Hudson

Spirit Animal
I was looking at picking up the FT13TH Box Set and asked my wife how many have their been (Seeing the box only has 8 of them) and this started me on am internet surf of all kinds of fun information. (I am not a 13th junkie; just curious).

There have been 11 Friday the 13th Films (Counting Jason -vs- Freddy) and another is in production as we speak

It is the 34th Highest Grossing Franchise is Cinema History (The franchise list has roughly 250 Franchises listed) with a total US Domestic Gross of $313,644,322 and Worldwide Grosses of $349,644,322

My favorties? Part 1, Part 3-D and Part IV (With Crispin Glover & Corey Feldman) and Part IV (With Thom Matthews of Return of the Living Dead fame)

"Actors who appeared in the series before going on to bigger roles include Kevin Bacon, Steven Culp, Corey Feldman, Crispin Glover, Kelly Hu, Allison Smith, and Miguel A. Núñez Jr. & Thom Matthews. In addition, popular Weekend at Bernie's actor Terry Kiser (who played the title roles in the 1989 comedy and its 1993 sequel Weekend at Bernie's II) appears in the series' seventh entry (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood)."

My wife asked 'How can they keep making them?' I guess the numbers tell us

I would be stoked to have a chance to write and direct one of these.

the numbers do speak for themselves. i'm not a big horror movie fan though. to me if you've seen one horror film you've seen them all (yeah there are a FEW exceptions but not many). how long did it take you to find all those numbers?

Interesting figures. I'm guessing that maybe the same source (where you found these numbers) may have listed other horror franchises as well.

I'd love to see a similar breakdown on the Halloween series. The original is still one of my favorite films of all time!

thanks for the research John!

Care to explain ?

yeah ft13th is a fun series. I like 1 3 4 6. i been watching them since i was a little.

I love the Friday the 13th movies. I went to the opening night of Part VII: The New Blood the day before my 12th birthday. I've been hooked on those since I was very young.

"...if you've seen one horror film you've seen them all."

I think as we get older, horror flicks may seem like they blend together faster than other types of films. There are limitations that keep the horror genre boxed in. I was at the video store the other night looking for...some thing. I couldn't find one movie that was doing it for me so I went to the horror section, as I always do when nothing else catches my eye. I must have stared at that section for 15 minutes. I went over the rows again and again and I felt like I was looking at a blank wall.
It's not that they are all the same, so much as they have a tendency to pull from one one another to the point of no return. Good horror is a must and good horror like good comedy is best served with style and originality. JH's list is a great example of the cream of the crop.
I ended up renting "Vampires" with James Woods. Similar to a lot of other vampire flicks, I know, but with one small exception...James Woods kicking that ass.
I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats.

I have never been a fan of the Friday 13th movies OR Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. I think the original Halloween, however, is one of the greatest horror movies ever. John, it was a good list but while I agree that Alien should be on it, I don't see Aliens as a horror movie but instead a straight Sci-Fi.

Hi Blaine

That list is a compilation of all Franchises (not merely Horror!).

I am a huge horror fan; love Halloween, love Friday the 13th and love Freddy. However, I must admit, each franchise has dwindle into mediocrity and that is too bad.

About once a year, the girlfriend and I will sit down and watch the first 4 Friday the 13th movies.

I'm really starting to dig Part 2. The look of Jason in the hood is really cool to me.

Nice Horse

I find the first 4 to be great horror stuff; the rest just spiral into ****.

I love Crispin Glover in 4. Too funny.

I stand corrected.

Exactly. Corey Feldman was a creepy kid when he wanted to be.

One of my favorite characters in the entire series would have to be Ted from Part 2.

The goofy guy who doesn't end up dead because he stays out drinking all night and never returns to the camp. You have to love that.

Ted ! Bwhahahaah! OMG I totally forgot. Yeah, he's cool.

I always had an afinity for Part 3 "in 3-D" (I actually saw it in the theatre in 3D!)

How about these 'Punker' dudes?

Or the HIPPY couple

And the Punker Chick who was the LEADER ?
