Unfortunately the actions of a few will fall upon many. I am unhappy about the conduct of these particular soldiers. An example will be made of these boys.
I regret the fodder this creates for those who were waiting for their first opportunity to portray Americans as bloodthirsty conquerors and then gleefully seized upon it immediately with no regard for context, historical abberation, or distinction from actual murderous regimes in how it will be dealt with . . . those for whom any possible avenue of criticism is more important than its factual basis, because the criticism is the ultimate end, not any quest for truth or justice.
This is not the way the United States or Great Britain conduct themselves and harsh punishment will follow.
I'm surprised there's not more from the left on this board than there appears to be. Maybe there are and many don't speak up for the same reasons I tend not to speak up on boards that may appear to be left-leaning?
These people? If you have ever served in the military (I was in Vietnam) you know there are some people that are over the top and others on drugs. Based on the photos we have seen it looks like some of these guys were taking drugs... I mean they were laughing while their pictures were being taken. Does this excuse them? No. This is inexcuseable behavior and they will be punished. I still don't think that we have all the info. Part of the Arab world just looks for these types of things that were done and condones some of the most atrocious things done by their own. Have they handed over the people that mutiliated the 4 in Fallajah yet?
In regards to what David said or the left or right... I am glad this was exposed. We are not perfect however noble our cause. In the end, I don't see the terrorists taking action against their own who have misbehavied. Again, we make no apologies for this behavior... but is there a possibility for a balanced view...from the Arab world...?
yes, it would be interesting to capture on video what is going on in Iraq if you survive. It is just difficult to obtain info that is objective from that area due to all the problems. Dave
Well put Dave. I know exactly the type referred to; I was in the USCG, my brother in USarmy, a close friend in the 82nd Airborne (Panama Invasion). Unfortunatley this is a reality of the situation. Anyone who thinks this is "how american or british troops are" are narrow minded to say the least.
In a country where the media controls U.S. opinions, you can expect to hear about he mutilated bodie of four soldiers. They, the media do not mention to you the mutilations that they have caused of iraqi civilians, not terrorists. In a country where you choose to believe through the controlled media everything you hear, for political reasons, it is truly sad
A good example is this video of abuse, in where CBS had this tape for a while but was ordered by the government not to show it until now. It is for this reason that the world has lost credibility in the U.S. government. From listening to so many voices in person, the iraqi's dont hate the west, but hate those people who came in claiming to give them freedom, but ended up being the same people destroying their houses, economy, and making empty promises.
we can sit on the old net and chat all day. But the fact of the matter is, we'd have to live there, or at least visit in person to make any decisions on the situation.
And as far as the prisoner abuse, the U.S. promised since the last incident at guatamato that this would not happen again. well it did
For someone who arrogates to himself a monopoly on reliable information, because we poor Americans are controlled by a "corporate media," you sure get a lot of details wrong. The four mutilated bodies were of American civilians, not soldiers; they were contractors pulled out of a truck, murdered, mutiliated, burned, mutilated some more.
The government did not "order" CBS not to air the tape; the government here, despite what you obviously think, does not have that power. If it did, none of this would have ever seen the light of day.
Then, of course, after making your statements, you say "we can't know; we don't live there." Again you hurl accusations and draw conclusions then try to deny anyone who may have a differing view by saying that's impossible to know for sure only from the news. Well, you sure do presume to know an awful lot. (Then, of course, after making a faux-conclusory statement about the uselessness of chatting on the web about it, you then immediately proceed to throw in another shot.)
I really don't get what your motivation is with these posts. You know all you're going to do is stir up animosity. This website is meant for people who have a common interest in filmmaking with the DVX to get together and discuss that interest. The previous thread which was getting out of hand was locked, and for good reason. Why do you keep trying to restart it?
Filmelife. You really have NO CLUE what you are talking about; this is based not only on this thread but other similar threads. It's mind boggling really attempting to discuss something with someone who has no idea what they are talking about.
I have ZERO problems with anyone who disagrees with my opinion but I do have problems with someone eho is just looking to slander or defile or misrepresent for whatever agenda.
I'm locking this thread and I don't want to see anymore TOPICS started by you that are attempts to stir up debates against (although you are the only person against) the U.S., Coalition or any PRO-TERRORIST banter.
I mean, honestly. You have NO IDEA what you are even talking about. If you want to discuss politics and you cannot keep it civilized and intellignet and thruthful then leave.
