The fountain

Does anyone in the know, know if and when Darren Arinofsky's film "The Fountain" is being released, or even if it is?

yes, its being released...but im not sure when. i feel like they are shooting now...or are done shooting...not sure...but its definitly a go...last i herd

IMDB has it listed as Post-production. I guess we could assume principal photography has wrapped!! What the hell ever happened to his thriller/ horror flick Proteus? This was *supposed* to be his next film after *Pi*. HHmm? ~reservoir~

he has been trying to make the fountain for a while...since 2001/2002

amoeba proteus is the name of his vfx/post company

What happened with him??? He was supposed to be the "One". Makes 2 amazing films, then seems like goes on hiatus for years. 2 films he's been attached to but got shot down for: Batman and Watchmen. He was a producer on an okay David Twohy(spelling) film Below, but other than that, he hasn't lived up to his potential... not yet at least.

It would be nice to see a movie from him soon!

Darren should avoid the mainstream at all costs and focus on what he does best. Write his own ****, then direct the hell out of.

1. Inspiring awe: an awesome thunderstorm.
2. Expressing awe: stood in awesome silence before the ancient ruins.

Are you thinking of Protozoa? It wasn't a horror flick, but it was the one he made right before pie, plus it has Lucy Lue in it.

But I digress, I'm excited to see this film. Pi and Requiem are absolute masterpieces, and this story sounds fascinating.

The Fountain was IN production a few years back, down in Australia. Brad Pitt was set to star in it, but backed out during production because he missed Jennifer Aniston (that was the reason given). The crews down there were apparently really, REALLY upset as most eveything was built.

So the project was pretty much shut down and went no where after that. The last rumor I heard was that they were going to start production again with a different star (i.e. someone with less clout than Brad Pitt), but I don't think it's gotten off the ground. Sucks for Aronofsky...

Pretty sure the Fountain is near completion. I read an article about it a few days ago. I believe Hugh Jackman is filling the part Brad backed out of. Can't remember where I read the article, but it had pics. Looks interesting.

No, in the directors commentary of *Pi* (1997) Darren talks a little about "PROTEUS", a SCI-FI script he had written which was *supposed* get made. After some googling I found the answer:

Aronofsky said:
I'm producing a Dimension film in London in February. Did you ever see the script I sold to Dimension called "Proteus"? It's a monster movie set on a World War Two sub. I'm producing it now and David Twohy, who directed Pitch Black, is directing it. I think it'll be an international cast, I think there'll be some celebrities, but you know, hopefully we'll cast some British actors, I mean we definitely will.

Get this: The movie's name was changed to *BELOW* and was released in 2002. So there you all have it: A Darron Aronfsky film that we may not have known existed. How could I have missed this? I must be slipping in my old age!! Here is the link at IMDB:

It was directed by David Twohy and written with 2 other Co-writers. I will assume based on the 1997 commentary that Darron wrote the *ORIGINAL* story and sold it to Dimension. So it may have been modified in the final version, given the two credited co-writers.

Well....looks like I have a DVD to track down and buy / rent !! :)

It's a decent movie. on the credits Aronfsky was a producer. I recommend it for anyone liking the supernatural, kinda creepy/mystery movie.

someone told me the reason it was basically straight to video was the distribution company that bought it decided to put their money into promoting the movie "They" instead which they were also releasing at the same time. "they' pretty well sucked, and was like an hour long... Below is i think Thwoy's best movie, go figure the exec's went for teenage horror instead of a dark movie starring Bruce Greenwood.
