The Flowpod - anyone got this ?

Re: The Flowpod - anyone got this ?

I had one. The concept of the flowpod is excellent but, I found too many flaws in design.
1. It really could not support my camera (DVX100a) fully loaded with Wide angle lens and 10 hour battery, shotgun mic and wireless receiver .
2. There are only two support screws that secured the plate in position. Problem was if the camera tipped forward the plate would tip somewhat like hinge. The slight hinge movement gives a shaky feel to the whole device.
3. Balancing on the fly is almost impossible.

IMHO go with the glidecam 4000.

Hi waynec003

cheers for the advice ;)

is the glidecam 4000 the best thing to go for in terms of a steadicam - do you have one & have you got any footage used with one ?

cheers again for your advice :)

Re: The Flowpod - anyone got this ?

I have the glidecam 4000. I like it much better. You don't get that monopod features of the Flowpod but you get the steadie footage. It’s also easier to balance on the fly. I primarily shoot wedding now, so gun and run is my state of mind. Being able to balance on the fly is important. There are some other steadying devices that I want to try but have not had the opportunity. Good luck. I know there are some other users on here who use the flow pod and have had success. I wasn't pleased. Do a search for flowpod.

there is a new gyro rig in town that is very appealing, but i agree, my glidecam is the most i use.
