the faq?

So I am reading through the forum trying to make my way through the sea of options to purchase with the DVX100.

I thought there would be a FAQ with what most people like to use in the way of tripod/mic/case and/or any other required startup items.

I think I have narrowed the purchase down to either evsonline or b&h.

I was kind of looking at one of the packages but not sure those are exactly what I want. I will be shooting interviews/documentary/commercial/events (I know that is a huge range).

I kind of like that BODEN 3221WN w/501 for the tripod and I was looking at the KATA Shell 3 for a case. Any reccomendations on a mic or any other required accessories?

Re: the faq?

not sure that helped much, I read the link

also, can anyone PM Rush's email address at EVS so I can email him

Re: the faq?

IML,

Wanted to say B & H is an honest company which is hard to find in this business. They will always send you the product you ordered timely and it will be USA warranty no greymkt BS.

The difference is with EVS I can call and always talk to the same person (Rush) This gives your purchase a more personable experience. Instead of talking to a NY salesman which B & H salespeople are very knowledgable instead you can talk to Rush who will go out of his way to earn your business as well as repeat business.

Whats interesting is I needed a product that they didnt carry. I called Rush he had it shipped to me and at my door within about a week. It is this personal service and the fact that EVS will go out of its way to beat any price that B &  H has that I continue to do business with them.

I am not an EVS employee or plant. In fact me and Rush started off on rocky ground because of my skepticism with these Frauds and rip off artists in the industry. I decided to give Rush a chance and Im glad I did.. because; since he has came through for me more than once with no hassles, good pricing and again the personal service. Thanks Rush..

Re: the faq?

B&H and EVS are pretty much neck-and-neck, in my experience. If you prefer the convenience of web ordering, B&H simply cannot be beat. They have their massive catalog entirely on line, you click your order and three days later it's on your doorstep.

If you prefer to conduct business over the phone, EVS is the way to go. B&H salesmen suffer from the same stereotype as all NY resellers, gruff and impatient. Rush will deliver excellent personal service and competitive prices.

Re: the faq?

I have ordered photography equipment from B&H for years.

I have had my problems with their service/support.

I am going to use EVS for this purchase.

Re: the faq?

I also have been ordering stuff from B&H for a few years, and yesterday I went into EVS(i'm lucky enough to live 15 minutes away) for the first time. I came out with a very positive experience. I met Rush, who was very helpful and knowledgable(even built the tripod I bought). Also their prices are very similar to B&H's. So now I can get products for about the same price, but also get great service and be able to pick my equipment right away. Thanks Rush!

Re: the faq?

I just want to say I have been working with Rush today via email on a purchase (I will be buying today) and I believe the service surpases B&H quite a bit.

I am not knocking B&H as I still buy my photography equipment there but I really think Rush at EVS is a cut above them when it comes to service (at least in my experience so far) and the pricing is excellent as well.

If it comes between B&H and EVS I would go with EVS if they have the item you are looking for.

Just my .02

I will be sending a lot of business towards EVS because of the excellent service and they will continue to get my business as well.

Also, thanks to everyone for the all the comments.

I am still deciding on a bag but other than that looks like I am getting:

the camera (of course)
hd280 pro headphones
3221wn501 tripod and head
me66/k6 mic
uv filter, tapes and 10 hour battery
maybe the lightwave windscreen
still trying to decide on a bag, thinking either the kata3 or portabrace, I am wanting something a little more protecting than a soft bag

are there any cables or anything I might need?
