The end of After Effects as we know it

Seen Adobe's new policy on Creative Suite? CS6 will be the last version as we know it. From now on, to access newer versions of After Effects, Photoshop and the like, it's going to cost 20 bucks a month for each app or 50 bucks for access to everything. That's until they decide to increase the price. They have us by the short hairs, folks. So, if you like CS6 - good - because you'll have that version forever unless you want to join Cloud and pay the freight.

I've been using Adobe's Creative Cloud apps since last September, and overall I'm quite happy with it. Using my CS3 license I was able to buy an annual $30/month subscription, and so far it hasn't been much different than using a regular DVD installed app. Yes it wants to "phone home" every once in a while, but this only takes a second to complete.

Adobe could just as easily raise the price of the physical DVD installed software, so I don't see a big difference here, except that Adobe might have more customers with Creative Cloud if they keep the price at a reasonable amount.

I'm learning Motion. It will do most of what I need and it costs
about the same as a month subscription to CC. Will you
continue to get upgrades faster than 12-18 months with
Creative Cloud? I actually predict the opposite.....major
updates take place less often now. I could be wrong,
but I did correctly predict Adobe's move to a total
Creative Cloud concept and many on here told me
how wrong I was about that......

I moved over to CC as soon as it was launched and personally found it to be a much better financial solution. Cash-flow wise it's much easier to part with $50pcm as opposed to laying down $1000 every 2 years to upgrade.
The majority of my work comes from the Design & Advertising industry and found myself to be quickly outdated with inDesign, loathed to paying a handsome sum for it I now have the latest version as part of the package (I know that this may be unique to me) but I think the cash-flow Pros far out strips the Cons.

I'd rather save $200 by paying $1000 up front instead of $50 a month for two years but that's just me.

I'm the same here... I'd pay 50 bucks more for a written manual... one of the things that bugs me... living in the boonies... is having help tied into the net and half the stuff that coms for CS5.5... doesn't even relate to my search ?... other than that... I've really enjoyed learning and playing with AE....
