The Ebay communication process

Below is my understanding of how ebay works based on me winning an item. Am I totally wrong?

1) A seller lists an item
2) I place a bid
3) The auction reaches it’s end date/time
4) An automatic message is sent to me saying I have won. Yippeee!!!
5) A message is sent to the seller advising I am the winner and the amount I’ve bid. (I’m only guessing this as I’ve never been a seller but it makes sense)
6) Within 10 minutes of the auction close I use paypal to pay for the item .
7) The seller gets an email from either paypal, ebay or both advising them I have paid. (once again I am guessing this happens)
8) The seller emails me to say they have received payment and will/has despatch the goods.
9) I receive the goods and give feedback.

My problem is that I’m never sure if I need to tell them I have paid for it or not. I always assume that point 7 above happens and there is no need to. Trouble is quite a few sellers don’t seem to respond (point 8) for some time.

Why is that so? Are they just slack, too busy or does paypal/ebay not inform them of my payment? Are they waiting for it to clear or something? I thought Paypal was sort of immediate.

Thanks for any clarification.

Note: I bought a lens but it was only $20 so aint exactly stressing and was just waiting to see how long it would take for this guy to contact me!

Maybe they're writing to you but it's hard to read because of the font used.

But seriously, usually professional sellers are on top of the communication process while casual ones are not.

yea it depends on the seller. A lot of times when I sell things on ebay I print a shipping label through paypal, and this automatically sends the buyer the tracking number, so I never contact them.

Shouldnt be anything to worry about, if you want you could probably send a message asking for tracking number. They should reply to that, but normally i think sellers just ship and dont worry about telling you.

...No biggie.

"You called?"

Thanks....

Seems like my assumptions are reasonable then.
Was worried I might be the one holding up the process and earning a bad rep.

As Pookie suggests it will probably just arrive, without any communication and if so I might give "neutral" feedback instead of "positive" because they were lax in keeping me up to date.

I could actually email and ask but feel I shouldn't have to do that.

Lens just arrived and is sitting on my desk.

Fairly quick really, just no communication.

If he sent you what was described quickly I'd consider giving a positive rating despite the lack of communication. There is a feedback section for communication and you can rate him in that section as you deem fit.
