The DVC-30

Well, like many I've circled this camera. I really honestly don't care about 24p (not a priority). I'm not looking for that, possibly a shallow depth of field but that's something different entirely. So I just don't know if it matters.
I am looking to shoot short films, and maybe in the future shoot a feature.

Lets say however if I did use the DVC and wanted to later get a film look, how hard would that be?
How much quality loss is there when shooting in cinemode?

And how come... I can't find ANY clips of this camera in action? :(!

I would buy the DVX100a but I just will never have the money, between general expenses like a car, insurance, and phone bill, I'll never get enough money saved up and than be able to buy a tripod, a deck, lights, and whatever else I may need.

Unless someone wants to donate to my fund ;)

But I'm sure I'll regret it, and rationalize it. But I just can't think of any options.

Everybody I've talked to who uses that camera LOVES it. It's a great little cam. Head over to DVinfo.net. Someone's bound to have some footage available there.

Do a search here. I own the camera and like it quite a bit. The images are close to the DVX but not as refined. I see more detail from the DVX. I find the camera handles better than the DVX and is only missing a couple of features from the 100a.

B&H is currently offering a $200 rebate on the camera bringing to $1600. I would option for the XLR adaptor for $200 more or you can just buy it later should you need it (though you'll save $50 buying it with the camera). Anyway at that price it's by far the best 1/4" camera on the market. I think you can buy a Sony PDX10 for around 2K and it has native 16:9 chips. I don't care for how the Sony handles but each to their own.

The cinemode is a pseudo frame mode. I don't particularly care for it because all it's doing is frame doubling in-camera so you're not getting a higher rez image. I recommend shooting in 60i mode and then playing with the footage in your NLE.

How hard would it be to transfer 30p to film, I would need something like MAGIC BULLET in the middle right? or is it just plain impossible.

First, remember that it's not actually 30p; it's a "frame" mode which approximates it. (It's pretty good, but it's not actual 30p.)

Second, 30p is your worst choice for transfer to film. Some say it's impossible, and many labs won't do it. You'll want to shoot in 60i.

Third, if you're already talking about film transfer, the cam you want is the DVX. Do NOT settle for something less than what you want because it will take you longer to get there. ("Never" is a long time.) You'll only regret it later.
