The Dodgy Look

Hey guys just wanted to see if I could pick your brains for some advice on how to achieve a particular look I'm thinking of creating. The scene in question is a fairly straightforward exchange between two guys in an extremely dodgy office.

I was thinking of achieving a very gritty and realistic look for this scene, vs a more stylistic noirish one. Now, I know the default lighting setup for this would be a strong, harsh, source from the top to throw ugly shadows on the characters, but I just wanna see if anyone else has any other ideas on how to get a dodgy look. The location hasn't been picked or anything as I'm just tossing the script around in my head right now, so really, anything goes right now. Any takers?

You could use a single soft source from below have them lean in and out of it. Lack of background or etching someone out usu. does the trick. Mostly though its going to be primary colors on the set and wardrobe.
