The Digital Camera Assisant

Article was good. But your friend's beginning paragraph comments regarding film camera assisting as well as second AC's comes off disrespectful and incorrect. Calling film ACing as 'simple' in comparison to digital and the 2nd ac's work as 'grunt work' is a very wrong viewpoint. Yes, the 2nd AC does some tasks which may not be a blast, but it is important work which is very difficult to do right. Plus 2nd AC's will theoretically make up half of your articles reading base... lol. Please do not call any crew members work grunt work. Grips don't like it, electritians don't like it, and especially camera department. Unless they are a PA or intern.... then they can lick your foot prints. lol.

Edit: I just worked a 16 hour day (yesterday) as a 2nd AC/ VsFX Supervisor on a music video. Perhaps my sore spot.

Otherwise...

The article really offers some great tips to people interested in ACing, many of which apply both to digital and film. The tips are very accurate and helpful, I think many people (especially in digital) do not take ACing as seriously (slating, etc) and you show that it is a much needed position. The Indie world should take note of the article. Thanks for the article.
