You guys will hate me, but I get my movie fix from eMule and The Pirate Bay. I haven't stepped into a movie theatre since the last millennium.
I don't really have a choice, because I live in Russia, and not even in a major city -- not that it matters anyway because there are no English-language films on DVD, and I can't buy them from anywhere because nobody makes English language DVD's for this region anymore. In short, the studios f--ked themselves out of at least one paying customer over here.
So instead I download my entertainment. I only have a 128kbit DSL line (if that!), but I can get about five movies a week. I burn a compilation onto DVD and watch them on a plasma TV in the living-room (or just watch them on the computer if I'm feeling lazy).
I would gladly pay a buck or two per download BUT I CAN'T! Still, I think this is the future -- at least it will be when the studios stop screwing things up.
Same thing here, in Bulgaria.
The "legal" distribution we have is inadequate. You can only get the newest Hollywood blockbuster crap in video-rentals.
Anything older or more exotic - zilch.
I can't get the movies I look for, even if I want to pay
So, take a look at the pirate bay... google it
I won't include a link, cause the mods would probably delete my post [which won't make the slightest difference, BTW].
The pirate bay... you can find almost anything there.
With a fast enough connection you get a DVD for 10-30 min.
Now imagine the legal version of the pirate bay.
Someone mentioned monthly fee
Yeah, you pay 15-20 bucks per month and then you're able to download as much as you want...legally. Then the gross profit is split and goes to the movies that have been downloaded most times.
Another scenario is:
You create an account in the legal piratebay and transfer, say, 30 bucks from your credit card.
Now you have 30 bucks credit and you can choose when and for what you wanna spend them there.
1-2 bucks per movie download, similar price for music albums.
Remember: we're talking about hundreds of millions of potential customers in the future.
Imagine you're the new Beatles and you upload your hot new album at the legal Piratebay.
The world loves you and within months 50 million music-lovers from the US, EU and Japan have downloaded your 1-buck album from the legal piratebay...
If an album costs a buck and anybody can tehnically download it, piracy will cease to exist and so will the money losses.
50 milion one-buck-clicking dudes...
That's 50 million bucks
Doesn't hurt does it?
(Imagine the same with movies).
P.S. Как дела?
