ok .. long story short.. i lost my shotgun mic with a lightwave equalizer on it when i was out on a shoot.. i must have forgot to put it back into the cam bag after grabbing the camera out quick..

4 days later i realized it was gone when i opened the bag and noticed it missing. I tried to rationalize it and looked everywhere and then decided it was time to get a new one anyway, but my throat sweelled up and i got really hot and started to perspire.. not cause i couldnt just replace it but .. well in short i was really upset i could do something so stupid. ..you know how it is.. nobody likes losing gear..

..anyway i decided to go back to the place i was shooting, and look for it. ..not there. so i go into the building nearby for some water and then out of despiration i ask the girl at the counter if they have a lost and found.. they do..its not there. ... but they have anothre lost and found down the hall.. so i go down there.. this kid opens it p for me and ..yeah.. unbelievable... hes got it. still in one peice. then in my hands.. then back in its place in the bag..

it was a bad bad day.. then a good good day.. it was the day that heaven smiled on me.

I know that feeling of relief from experience, believe me. :) At the end of a long day of production, you just want to get home and there are so many cables, adapters, plates, tapes, lightstands, etc. to remember. I left a brand new carbon fiber boompole somewhere last year and someone's probably fishing with it at the moment.

I was shooting on the beach last weekend, running all over the place. I have a waist pouch with a few pouches that have loosened up over time. For the past few weeks, I've had so many close calls..almost losing different lenses or caps. Leaving the lens cap here and there only to find it later, then vowing to be more careful. Last weekend, I almost lost my tele-adapter $$$$. I'm not that forgetful and sloppy, it is just that shooting weddings is so fast paced you don't have time to be all sweet and neat about every piece of equipment all the time and it easy to get distratcted by something happening live.

After we were done with the shoot, I patted down all the things in the pouch..saw the edge of one lens cap and thought, "Great...time to go!" At my next location, I discovered one of my lenses was not actually there and determined I had dropped it on the beach. I envisioned it sold on eBay or a table coaster for some dumbass. Kicking myself hard, I kissed it goodbye. The next few hours were spent pretty upset...I was shooting a weddding..very hard work, grueling, lots of planning, draining. All my time and sweat, and $$$ from the day was now lost in possibly having to replace the lens.

My shooting partner later discovered late after we got home..that he had put the lens in his pouch and wrapped it up ( which is why he didn't see it when I asked about it). Yeah, I was a little not so happy about him and me forgetting that, but it was a harmless lesson to be learned with minimal pain.

I have since modified the way I carry around my lenses and stuff. I added some neoprene pouches with drawstrings..no need for the caps and now they won't pop out.

I gotta say: From the title of this thread/topic, I was expecting more details of your newest addition to your family. I thought, "Oh boy, Neil's gonna tell more details surrounding the birth of his little angel.".

Imagine my disappointment as I discovered it was only about a lost microphone/equalizer.

Good gravy, young man... get a grip (then you won't lose your gear!). :) :) :)
