Hey everyone, here's an article from the Atlanta Journal Constitution where the power industry lobby is warning us that "The Day After Tomorrow" is 'Hollywood' and is scientifically illiterate. Gasp

Power industry riled by doomsday movie

Here's something to keep in mind before dropping hard-earned cash on "The Day After Tomorrow," the global warming doomsday blockbuster film opening next week.

The Electric Reliability Coordinating Council panned it.

The Washington-based group is the formidable lobbying muscle behind a number of recent efforts to make environmental rules friendlier to the coal-fired power industry.

Atlanta's Southern Co. is one of its top backers.

The organization is the industry's first-response team to environmental critics --- although its targets are more typically environmental groups or politicians it doesn't like.

This time, it's taking on a movie for its dramatic portrayal of a climate-change disaster. Climate change is linked to global warming, which is linked to one of the gases coal-fired power plants produce in bulk.

On Friday, ERCC gave the movie "two thumbs down" and quoted a dozen scientists saying its depiction of an abrupt climate change disaster was pure Hollywood and "scientifically illiterate."

The utility group isn't the only one weighing in on the movie. A Google search on the movie turned up two page sponsors, both traditionally identified with the other side of the debate and both plugging the movie.

"The Day After Tomorrow" opens May 28.
