The Dark Knight Rises

I agree. Batman Begins felt more like a Batman movie, too. The Dark Knight was more like a generic action movie.

yeah it's unfortunate I was expecting a lot from Nolan but was unhappy with both movies as "batman" movies, they were great action movies don't get me wrong. I just felt they deviated from what made batman batman to me, his super power is being the worlds greatest detective and genius beyond most human beings. Now the movies hinted at this but for me he was just a rich jock running around in a bat suit beating people up, Fox was his brain, he was a bit of a detective but nowhere near the renaissance man he is in the comics. though perhaps they are still working towards him becoming the Batman we know kind of like the 007 revamps. but to be honest I don't want to see a flawed learning more human batman, I want the dark brooding introspective batman that makes the hard choices but in the end does the right thing(he does that in the movies I know) and I want to see more batman in a batman movie not Bruce Wayne. Now the movies did cover this to some extent just not to the degree I would like. Don't get me wrong these are the best looking batman movies I have ever seen, but it just seems oddly enough that the Bruce Tim cartoons capture the feel of the comics much more accurately and I wish the movies would do the same.

though like many others I have created an image of batman in my own mind separate from many others so for me to expect to see my interpretation on the big screen is a little presumptuous. I just feel that they could make them much more about batman and far less about Bruce Wayne and pointless action. Though many liked the movies so I assume not many will agree with me and that is fair, I just hope that some day I will get to see a true Dark night movie(grimy gritty realistic frank miller style Batman no rubber suits just a straight up cloth costume with cuts rips and bruises).

I grew up on batman comics, I love the stroylines though I have not read it as loyaly as I have other comics it is still one of my favorites. Batman is my favorite super hero because he is a normal human and his super power is his intellect. That taught me as a child that the brain is a very powerful thing even more so than strenghth or other super powers as batman would routinely beat opponents much stronger than him but with far inferior minds. I also grew up on the animated television series which was wonderfully done, now not always accurate to the comics but done in the same maner and manged to keep the feel of them.

So as you can tell I have a bais from far before these movies came out as well as certain expectations before they were made, so I understand if people do not agree with me at all. I'm not even just talking about people who were introducted to the franchise through the movies, there are most likely die hard batman fans who have read every comic and strongly disagree with me about the handling of batman character, fair enough, it's just this is how I feel based on what I connected to with the charter as a child, and I'm just dissapointed that connection has been removed for me in these new movies.

well sorry for the rant, I love comics, I love looking at comic movies, but for the most part in compairison to their comics I'm rarely ever remotely happy with them.
here's to hoping someone finds the balance betweeen direct translation of a comic and adaptation from the comic medium to the movie medium.

oh and any batman movie is better than no batman movie, especially if nolan is doing it.

stay passionate

Well let's see. Nolan likes to take a 'realistic' approach to things. Mind you batman is pretty campy so he has to find a fine line between them. But everything has had a degree of realism. Two face wasn't a madman, just a politician being manipulated, and he wasn't covered in acid, just had half his face burnt. The joker was a scarred individual wearing make-up, rather than the make-up having fused with his skin.

So what would his new villain be? Would he take someone popular, like Poison Ivy, or Catwoman and make them more 'realistic'? Say Poison Ivy is a woman that was poisoned by a plant and she's slowly dying, and the poison can be transmitted through her saliva? Not sure if I'd like either of them to be in it. Though if they do for them what he did for the Joker... it should make it interesting to say the least.

Can't see Harley. To me she was more of Joker's sidekick than a villain herself.

Then again he may just do like Begins, and chose someone less obvious/known. I guess Liam Neeson is a hint to that.

The rumor is also that he may be clayface... however considering how Nolan approaches his films, I doubt it'll be clayface. Hugo strange is right down his alley, someone that will challenge the Dark Knight through intelligence, not supernatural powers.

I highly doubt that they would bring Liam Neeson back to play a character other than Henri Ducard / Ra's al Ghul.

The official Warner Bros. release only says Selina Kyle, so perhaps she won't be playing Catwoman yet. There is also supposed to be another big female villain that has yet to be cast.

I was thinking the same thing, but in the same press release Nolan says something along the lines that this will be the concluding film, so I'm not sure why he would use that character unless he plans on using her as Catwoman.

Maybe it's just a nod to the character? Frankly, I'd rather see Talia al Ghul than Catwoman...we've already seen her on the big screen.

Should I be ashame for not knowing anything about the character Bane? Well from what other people are saying, I look forward on discovering him for the first time on screen.

My thoughts exactly. Unless maybe WB plans on continuing the franchise after Nolan's departure? Or maybe they'd try to do some retarded Catwoman spinoff with Hathaway... after the Spidey "reboot," studio idiocy like this wouldn't surprise me in the least.

That said, TDKR will rock. I don't care if they cast Barbara Walters as Batman's newly-resurrected mother, Nolan would still find a way to blow my mind.

Hmm, guess it makes sense to some degree. Now Batmans love interest is gone... guess it should have been a hint they'd bring in someone else. The most complicated love story, Batman and Catwoman.

I'm not really a big fan of Catwoman to be honest, but considering what he's done with Joker, this should be interesting. Bane... umm... k?

I'm just curious how Nolan will approach these villains. They've always been on a more supernatural/strange realm, unlike his previous villains. Then again he did find a way to humanize twoface and make him more intriguing.

I definitely think Nolan will make an excellent film. Both Bane and Catwoman are realistic characters I think that's why Nolan chose to use them. Since this will be his last movie Nolan really needs to make this end in a way thats both meaningful and still have the ability for another to pick it up. He has done a good job thus far so I wouldn't want anyone else to take over his impressive foundation.

I can't wait to see how Nolen handles the fight with Bane and Batman!!!!

I think all comic fans are looking forward to that showdown.
