Right, me again.

What mini DV tapes should i usein my DVX100. I will hold my hands up here, i have used several different types, but after trawling through the archives it seems that that is not wise, and i have performed the cardinal sin!
Can anyone suggest a good tape to use? Should i stick with one brand.
Please could someone descibe the DRY/Wet lube to me also?

Thanks,

Tim.

Re: The cardinal sin of DVX usage.

I use the panasonic DVM60 ones.
I guess you can use any DVM60, since that is what the manual recommends.

But, since the camera is panasonic, I just stick to their tapes.

All the best

Fidel.

Re: The cardinal sin of DVX usage.

If you've trawled through the archives, it should be pretty clear that the (dry lube) Panasonic DVM63MQ is the tape of choice. Dry lube refers to a non-liquid lubricant or surface treatment like teflon or graphite. Wet lube is a liquid lubricant like oil or silicone in a carrier.

Re: The cardinal sin of DVX usage.

I believe Sony tapes are wet-lube and if you started with wet-lube, stick with wet-lube--mixing wet and dry is a no-no.

Re: The cardinal sin of DVX usage.

I got one of those when I bought the camera, but thought they weren't as appropriate as the DVM60.

We keep learning every day.

Re: The cardinal sin of DVX usage.

I use Panasonic DVC 60 minute tapes, the cheapest one's you can get. I think I end up paying 2.50 each for them. I'm assuming these are wet tapes. So, throwing in a MQ or PQ every now and then for something important would cause problems? You'd think Panasonic would expect this kind of usage. It's not good enough to just stick with one brand huh? :'(

Re: The cardinal sin of DVX usage.

So what happens now if i do want to start using one brand? Do i do a head clean, am i really going to ruin my heads? I also can't find those MQ tapes anywhere for sale online in the UK. I hate being thick!

Re: The cardinal sin of DVX usage.

Just try to find a single brand of high quality tape and stick with it. Don't buy the cheapest tape you can find--it's a false economy. Have your heads professionally cleaned after 100 hours unless you're very confident of being able to clean the heads, rollers and capstans yourself.
