the brown bunny

This is one of the biggest piece of crap films since...2 fast 2 furious! I mean I sat through the whole thing watching Gallo kiss all these random ugly chicks and watching all those crappy camera angles. Not to mention, all the highway footage was shot threw a dirty window. Then I finally got to the ending only to see that "Kids" chick give fellatio to that weird looking guy. I was glad to see Roger Ebert call it "The worst film ever shown at the Cannes Film Festival".

I give it 1/10.

BTW, why is this in the Cafe?

Not only total crap, but to see an actress who was once nominated for an Oscar give a guy head is wrong [It was not simulated, but real]

I dig the porn, but ...Draw a line somewhere

i have it on DVD. fantastic and revolutionary in an independent sense. went to the chicago premiere and Q&A with Gallo. a genius beyond comparison. appreciate what he was doing with america's scenery; the man just loves america. I doubt anyone here had the chance to, but enjoy the beautiful 16mm stock on the big screen, especially in the driving scenes. ive never seen anything break convention so well. It is an awkward movie; its not as good as buffalo '66, and it sure as hell isnt the best movie to appear at cannes. but look at it for what it is.

Saw woman in the PX with a little kid in tow. She picked up a copy of Brown Bunny and headed for the cashier.

I wondered if she was buying it for the kid, thinking a film about a cute brown bunny would keep him occupied while she was reading Oprah in a nice warm bubble bath.

A couple of things...

Anyone read the back and forth between Ebert and Gallo where Gallo said that he wished Siskel's terminal cancer upon him? Ebert's response was very contained and sad. Makes me wonder what would compell a person to be that nasty for any reason.

Also, I think that the Japanese trailer, which you can find online, is much better than the film. It is very creep and sad, and looks very much like one of those British 60's indie films, where a bunch of people hang out, live a-morally, and bad **** happens to them, but you feel bad for them anyway, because they are kind of charismatic. Oddly, I didn't feel badly about any of the bad things that happen in Brown Bunny. After reading what Gallo said about Gene Siskel... Kind of wished worse stuff would have happened to him in the film.

Don't know about the brown bunny, but Gallo shot the finest commercial I've ever seen starring Paris Hilton.

He distilled the medium to its essence:)

I also read an article about a archictectural wonder building in N.Y (apartments/penthouses with Ralph Lauren,Martha Stewart etc...), and all the problems etc...I was suprised to learn Gallo has a suite in it. Turns out, he is one hard working mofo, and is a multimillionaire.

Guess I'll find a copy of the BB and see for myself.

Cheers.

It took me a while to figure out that this thread was ressurected. I was wondering why Stabb said 'happy birthday' to me, and I was even more curious as to why I don't remember replying with 'thank you.'

I bought and watched Buffalo '66 last night and loved it.(probably one of my favorite movies now) So I guess I don't hate Gallo I just didn't like the Brown Bunny.

I think Gallo is an incredibly skilled director.
I can see why so many people dislike his work, it's not action packed, it's not thoroughly explained - it uses darker sides of human emotion to paint interesting and multi-faceted characters. It asks the audience to share themselves before they can receive any type of satisfaction, or even a sense of connection what so ever. I think as a filmmaker, excercising that choice is both risky and valiant. I, for one, love his work; and simultaneously acknowledge why others wish not to. That is why this art medium interests me so.

I've never seen it but I understand that the best thing to come of it was Gallo and Ebert's in the press sparring match:

"In particular, Roger Ebert called the film "the worst in the history of Cannes" to which Vincent Gallo responded that Ebert was a "fat pig with the physique of a slave trader". Ebert paraphrased a remark of Winston Churchill and responded that "although I am fat, one day I will be thin, but Mr. Gallo will still have been the director of 'Brown Bunny'". Gallo then put a "hex" on Ebert's colon, to which Ebert responded that "even my colonoscopy was more entertaining than his film".

Hey, I'm new here, just figured I'd chime in on this though-being the imdb whore that I am, I read up a lot on this guy.

He seems like a tremendnous jackass, talented or not, I can't tell because I've never seen his movies. But I mean to wish terminal cancer that your business partner died of on someone (as previously mentioned).... That is fairly... Very... screwed up.

I don't know if you guys heard about his recent stunt, but on his website he apparently wanted to try and sell his semen for $1 million. The buyer could not be a woman of color, preferrably of aryan descent (i think), and jewish people were welcome to apply (here's where the sarcasm sets in and shows the joke) for jewish people are more likely to succeed in Hollywood and may even receive an oscar. (someone's a bit bitter/pretentious, eh?) He also stipulated that there would be a half million dollar charge to have a natural inscimination, but that could be negotiated depending on whether or not the girl was attractive.

I suppose it's kinda funny due to the seriousness with which it's delievered, but everything I've read about him seems like he's a bag of douche. Ebert's integrity is pretty stong, for I know I wouldn't have reviewed the re-edited version as well as he did after all those remarks. I would've sat through the movie and picked everything apart to give it the worst rating i could possibly give.

By the way, Hey everyone! Great to be on the dvxuser boards! I'm very uneducated in the ways of filmmaking, and I do not as of yet (keyword is yet) own a DVX. I don't think I will ever be owning one though, for by the time i've gotten enough money I'll definately be opting for the HVX. I'll probably ask a bunch of stupid stupid STUPID questions (ie, what does a matte box do?), but remember I have no formal training, I just love making movies. I hope to learn a lot here. Thanks for listening!

you're just a sad internet troll who does nothing but complain... have a sense of humor. gallo has a pregnant wife, so obviously everything in that article is pure satire. and actually experience art before you criticize it.

btw him and ebert made up big time at the brown bunny premiere at chicago... ebert reviewed the final cut of the film and gave it three stars.

So he's not really selling his stuff?

Oooh I think I might buy the outfit he had on at screening of "The Brown Bunny" at Cannes FF.
