The Brave One

Is there not a thread for this movie yet?

I just watched this last night On Demand HD and it kicked all kinds of ass for me. I'm gonna watch it again before the rental runs out.

One of very few movies that made me question whether the protagonist was right or wrong. Even better, I cracked a smile at the end of the movie.

Great revenge movie, IMO, with a lot of heart.

Yeah, a weird flick. (spoilers). Jodie Foster's character was just a littttttlllle too dyke-y for me. Yeah, I know. Politically Incorrect. Send me to PC jail. But everything from her haircut to the way she talked... it was just too much. Sure she had to be tough - but did she have to be the poster child for the next Indigo Girls concert? ---

The murder scene was soooo intense though. A great great scene that really made you want them to seek revenge.

I went and rented Death Wish and watched it for the first time since they said this was a remake of that film. That film was actually laughable by comparison. I guess we have different expectations these days and, of course, Jeff Goldblum is hardly someone I would ever be afraid of - but the rape scene felt like 3 clowns performing in a circus in that movie. It was very dated and I would recommend The Brave One a million times over that flick.

The ending was controversial. I heard a lot of people (major spoiler) walking out saying, "A cop never would've told her to kill the guy". But I thought that was what made the movie work. Because in every other film they tend to do what's "right" and say, "no, you can't kill him. We have to take him in." So I commend them for that choice. But overall the movie was a little too all over the place.

Not sure if I liked the movie or not. I walked away with mixed feelings, but I think that was part of the movies pull - by the end you wanted her to go out and take care of business. Same way with the Clint Eastwood boxing movie as he pulled the plug on the chic at the end of the movie. Funny how movies, and more importantly stories, can move you to rethink how you feel about something.

I thought the movie kicked ass. It was a genre film done right.

Death Wish also kicks ass, love how he kinda pulls the bazooka out from nowhere and shoots the baddie from 9 feet away! Can't remember if that's in the first DW though.

You do realize that Jodie Foster is queer in real life?!

So your beef is with her character not being hetero enough?

couldn't make it past the trailer with the two fake thugs walking up to her on the subway with a blade and she pulls out a gun. i'll wait for it to come on TNT or FX.

It didn't fit. It didn't make sense. This woman was supposed to be in love with a man and yet she spoke, dressed, styled her hair, etc., as if she was a lesbian. A little confusing.

that was distracting for me also. her relationship with sayid didn't seem believable at all. i think it would have been a better choice if the character was portrayed as more feminine to add further contrast the decisions she was making.
