The Bourne Films

I'll put it another way: these movies are probably the best of the traditional, fairly predictable school of big action movies coming of out of Hollywood today, on average.

Well put

Allot of films seem to be just a mess of rapid fire, montage, quick cut editing and outright lack soul.

The Bourne Identity is one of the top American action movies of all time. The action in the movie was filmed and choreographed almost to perfection.

If Steven Seagal did action like that, he'd still have a career.

When Jason Bourne takes on an enemy, you know he's going down. The acting, stunt work, camera work, editing and sound all worked like a finely tuned orchestra to pull it off seamlessly.

The initial first take down in the park, the staircase scene, the car chase, the shotgun chasing down a sniper scene...

When you consider it came from the director of Swingers and co-creator of The OC, it's all the more impressive.

The second film was decent but the first one is in a class of it's own.

It's funny how this movie is being compared to the new Bond because if you look closely, this movie is almost like Jason Bourne vs. 007 as Clive Owen was originally supposed to be the new Bond but dropped out to do Children Of Men instead.

Rambo 2 is a shitty movie, be honest. First Blood is actually a good movie that's sullied by the association with the 2nd and 3rd.

Robocop is a fine movie, but it's tainted by Verhoven camp. I prefer my action movies to take themselves seriously. If I had to make a list of American action movies, it would certainly include:

Die Hard, The Matrix, Terminator 2, Aliens, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (or Raiders, I can never decide), The Empire Strikes Back.

Those are the only absolutes I can think of, off the top of my head. So after that there's more than enough room to add Jurassic Park, Casino Royale, X2, Bourne Supremacy, maybe Kill Bill (as a single film)... Terminator 1 might find its way on that list, too.

I'm not counting war movies.

I have to admit, I am a HUGE fan of vintage Steven Seagal. I'm talkin late 80's early 90's Seagal, not the lameass, overthehill, fat DTV Seagal.

I'm talkin ABOVE THE LAW, HARD TO KILL, OUT FOR JUSTICE, and my all time personal favorite action film, MARKED FOR DEATH.

I grew up on this crap. Nothing but me, my dad, and Seagal, Van Damm, Norris, Bruce, and Jackie.

Of course, I've discovered real deal movies since then, but still, they hold a very special place in my heart.

Oh, and Spidey, that is single handedly the best banner of all time.

The first was okay. I found the second film silly and boring. I don't think I will be checking out the final film when it comes out. I will either rent or DL it.

I beg to differ, sir.

One of them, yes.

Most of the other movies people have listed fall into the Sci-Fi, War or Fantasy category. I'm talking straight, American, knuckles on yo chin action and not any of this ish that came from another planet.

Although you could say The Bourne Identity also falls into the Spy movie category along with the Bond films. In which case, it still holds its own.

Blaine - But, yes, it is subjective, and knowing what your "top 10 best films ever" are gives me a baseline by which to judge your recommendations.

That's pretty condescending :Drogar-Angry(DBG):. So what if Brandon considers them the best films ever? Are your opinions worth more in the hallowed criticism of cinema?

For my part I thought The Bourne Identity was very influential on the "realism" of action films and as a consequence Bond (one of the most successful film franchises ever) has changed direction.

Not bad going for a remake.

The only regretful factor is that Bourne-esqe action may become the norm. And then we'll all bore of it and have to go back to escapist, cheesy romps with eyebrow acting.

Age sucks

It must be a generation gap or something cause sometimes I hear shite coming out of people's mouths that make me drop my jaw

Bourne Identity is okay; entertaining.

Not great, not classic, not epic. It will not be rembembered.

Predator blows ? LOL ?

Jesus Brandon, sometimes you take the right of opinion and just rape the concept. Predator rules. It has a 7.5 on IMDB after 30,000 votes. It is a total classic and has Arnold at the top of his game not too mention John McTiernan starting his peak right into Die Hard and The Hunt For Red October.

First Blood is a classic and defintaley sullied by the next 2.

I'm with Super Trooper; I admittedly have a soft spot if guilty pleasure for old school Seagal. Above The Law was a legitimate cop film when it came out. It was not sensational or formulaic. It was a street cop film and kicked ass.

Van Damme was always 'Eh ...' for me and Norris, but I still cannot deny their place in my cinematic heart. The Bourne films have too much Euro in them for me. If I ever get the chance, Ill make the true American Spy film.

=

But back to Bourne; I enjoy the films, with the 2nd one being better than the first one, but they still lack something. I can't put my finger on it. They just lack the classic vibe.

Greatest Action Film of all time ?

All these genres;

Die Hard.

die hard is pretty spot on, lol i uess im the only one who like rambo 2 james cameron wrote this while driecting terminator and writing aliens. but i like it just for the american got to kill everything but know that the government uses people aspect. plus when john rambo reutns and says mission accomplish i felt like i just helped him **** all those people up. lol

but im right where you are john but then again i grew up with movies so classics are always classic to me. i remeber watching predator on vhs everyday when i was kid.
