The Book of Eli

Searched and couldn't find a thread on this here.

Anyway, looks pretty cool. Didn't understand the premise at first. Bascially the main character has the last known copy of the bible in existence, he's headed west to deliver it (somewhere) and he runs into someone who wants the bible to use it as a device to enslave people.

So, basically, one guy wants to use the bible for good, one wants to use it for power.

Also, turns out they used a Red cam in the production, so that's cool.

I am really looking forward to seeing this film. I am afraid I will be comparing it to "The Road", however.

Yeah, but this won't be a melodrama. This will be like...Resident Evil vs Night of the Living Dead, right? There will be lots of fighting and pseudo Kung-Fu diatribes (and that hot chick from That 70's Show). It's definitely going to be a dialog on religion, etc. but I'm sure it will be pretty surfacey, ya know?

Saw the midnight showing. Was a pretty good film, it had its issues of course, but I enjoyed it. Sound was the best part of the film.

The sound was amazing.

Also, there's one scene where they just wreck a house....The sound/editing/camera work/SPFX is simply unreal and is one of my favorite movie scenes.

Cool film with a twist.

The film is pretty good but it's not amazing. I think this is mostly due to it's pacing issues in spots. It's one of those films where if you're willing to just wait and be patient, you'll get a cool twist at the end and some thrills/spills. Gary Oldman did a great job as the bad guy, but he wasn't very deep. Washington as usual did a great job, nothing bad to say here. I think pieces of the film got too far into style and less into substance. That's exactly where the pacing issues came in at times. Too many slow-motion shots of DW walking, or long held shots without much motivation. Cool shots, but unmotivated sometimes.

The twist was great, very unexpected but as soon as it was shown it made a lot more sense. It's a film where you want to watch it twice because once you know the twist, the previous 1:45mins will have all sorts of new angles to it when DW is on screen. I don't think he was completely blind as I remember many spots in the film where he was doing things that required him to see. I think he was either going blind, or partially blind. Like being scared of the guy in the beginning when he opened the closet...he got scared when he "saw" it. Or him sitting in the moonlight to read the bible. Lots can be explained if he was totally blind but some can't. It makes more sense to me given his character that he learned brail possibly in case he DID go completely blind, so he didn't compromise his mission.

Pretty violent movie overall, but I've seen worse. Lots of heads being chopped off, LOL.

Decent movie, not horrible, not amazing...enjoyable...but could've had a few mins cut out.

Like when he says that one line, "I'm not going there by sight, but by fate."

Pretty good flick. Not a superb masterpiece, but definitely entertaining and the first action scene was definitely one of the best I've seen in a while. Post apocalyptic badassery. I'm always down for that.

Good sound and visuals, but the story was awful! Lots of recycled ideas here, weird pacing and just silly things. I like Mila Kunis but lots of the interaction with her felt wrong. And if Oldman ran out of fuel, how'd they drive all the way? And if the IPOD survived, nothing to type on, just handwriting and a really, really old printing press?

Ahhh,....but he wasn't reading with his eyes there....if you think back he actually had his hands "in" the bible while crouching down. I think that scene was set up to fool us.

my mom and step dad worked on that movie. I got to go to the main town, which consist of maybe 100 people and see a lot of behind the scene pictures my step dad took. I'll say that the actors didnt really like new mexico.

I enjoyed it. One or Two more fight scenes would have been good though. Felt a little slow in parts but and enjoyable film nonetheless. The twist I DID NOT see coming.

GUYS! I met one of the directors (there were two). His son went to my high school and he came in and talked to my film class. Just thought that was pretty cool. Somehow I tell everyone that but haven't seen it yet haha.
