The Black Friday Deal Thread

How about we use this thread to share super deals that will be occuring over the next several days (week) as we hit black friday and cyber monday?
I realize this may be a temptation for G.A.S. (gear aquisition syndrome) to flare up but it is also a chance for us to save money on something we do really need and might have been waiting on.

GoPro Karma drone, Karma grip, Hero 5 Black, battery, controller. $599 at Best Buy. I just bought a second one. Worth it for grip, camera, and battery. That means free drone...irs a good one...takes more attention than the Chinese ones.

Hmmm. That gopro deal is very tempting. How inferior is the hero 5 to the 6? And what’s the deal with the drone? I think there was a thread on here about huge issues when they first came out.

CVP.com has some good stuff
I just picked up the Sony 24-70 2.8 GM at £144 off (+ the £100 cash back). Also got the Sachtler Flowtech 75 for £736... Also picked up a Sachtler Camporter bag for £94 and finally the Sony 70-200 GM even though it wasn’t on sale... (also has a £100 cash back though)

Will it work with the Hero 7 black?

I just read a hero 7 black/silver/white comparison that CLAIMS the black’s stabilization is so good you don’t need a gimbal. I.e, hero7 black with built in IS = Hero5 with Karma. You could just run around with the Go Pro in your hand. And the Hero7 black is $400 I believe.

The Hero Black 7 has good digital stabilization...but nothing really like a gimbal.

The Hero Black 5 and 6 are really similar, and they'll both fly just fine on the Karma drone. I think the 6 has higher frame rates in 4k. They both have linear Field of View, which is what I use it for...acts more like a standard 21 or 24mm FF lens, and not like a GoPro fisheye.

The drone is a great drone. It had serious issues at original launch, that caused it to lose power and drop like a stone. Bad. They have been corrected, but never recovered from the bad press. They don't have all the auto-modes that DJI offers, so it's seen as not as full-featured, although I'm a good drone pilot and it doesn't affect me (I know you're laughing now...but I'm a 737 Captain in my day job).

The last nail in the coffin is that GoPro discontinued the Karma drone. They still support it for parts and service. There likely won't be any more software updates...but I don't think it needs any.

So, for $599, you get a GoPro 5 Black (4k), gimbal head, gimbal grip (for handheld), a battery, the controller and high-quality screen, and the drone. Good deal IMO.

Hollyland Cosmo 400 is $500 off, making it $989 today
Hollyland Cosmo 600 is $1180 off, making it $1299 today
Litepanels Astra 6X bicolor down to $939

Thanks. That site CLAIMED the IS in the 7 negated need for gimbal.

I have the Go Pro Hero 4, 5, 6 and 7. The 7's stabilization is a step up and negates the need for a gimbal for hyperlapses but for just regular shooting, it helps but really isn't gimbal-like movement. On a drone, or on a car/boat, it's pretty great but handheld, meh, not as good as a gimbal. Give it one or two more generations and it will be. I have no doubt that within a few short years, we'll look back at our Zhiyun Cranes, MoVIs, Ronins and laugh, they work but are clunky, heavy and obtrusive. In-camera gimbal will be the hot tip and everything from phones to Arris will have it.

Great price on a Vega 56 GPU from Newegg for $389.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...p=&AID=12920453&PID=8900246&SID=tomshardware-

Combine that with a eGPU case for a great Mac eGPU for around $700 vs the BMD eGPU Pro for $1,200 for equal performance. Plus you can update it with a different GPU in the future. In fact the Vega 56 can get by with a Sonnet 550W eGPU case that supplies less power for only $250 which brings the total eGPU cost to around $650.

As soon as Apple announces multi-GPU usage in FCP X, I am on it. I know Resolve does but I am not yet fully committed to Resolve as I have two films midway and a bunch of smaller things all in progress in FCP X.
