The Birds remake?

i heard will smith is going to play every part in the movie. kinds like what eddie murphy used to do...

sigh....badtimes...

Unfortunately, there were explosions in the original movie. That can only lead to more explosions and, even more likely, people running around, on fire, with flaming CG birds flittering about like hateful moths to a human candle.

We used to visit those bucolic hamlets Bodega and Bodega Bay when we lived in the City - even posed a family photo in front of the original schoolhouse. I have that image somewhere, with attacking seagulls Photoshopped into the scene for laughs.

This continued remake frenzy reminds me of a movie I fell in love with a few years ago about a con-artist who dupes an acquaintance out of his life, money and finally even his girl.

René Clément's Plein Soleil (1960), for anyone who hasn't seen it, has a really intriguing European draw to it - with the characters hopping around Italy and the Meditteranean wearing designer clothes and requisite tortoiseshell sunglasses in a suspense adventure on par with any Hitchcock effort.

The film, based on Patricia Highsmith's novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley, is entirely in French with good subtitles throughout.

When it was announced that a remake was underway with Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, I was really unhappy - feeling almost like something was being taken from me personally. Once it was out, I actually liked the new version, though it doesn't hold up against Soleil - something about Damon just doesn't work once you've seen the first film.

The good news is that in the modern film age, any motion picture is in and out of theaters in a heartbeat and onto DVD where it is either grabbed-up with reckless abandon or, conversely, almost entirely forgotten.

If anything, the new Birds effort might well build interest and curiousity in the original work by Hitchcock - bringing younger people to it who might not have otherwise ever watched it.

Just finished watching The President's Analyst and it struck me that Will Smith would be great in a remake of it, should anyone decide to do one.

Not only that, but the "Flint" movies, too.

Can't decide if that's good or bad...for Will.

I think Will Smith should remake INDEPENDENCE DAY; what with the new CG available and all.

I actually welcome a remake of the THE BIRDS. With Bay though? I don't know. I'm hearing good buzz about the Island and maybe this guy willl mature a bit? Maybe not. I don't know. If someone offered me to Direct a remake (yeah right) of a classic; I'd do it.

I can't wait for Peter Jackson to direct Pauly Shore in the upcoming "Ben Hur" remake.
