The Birds : Hitchcock

One of my favorite Hitchcock films. Got to watch it again the night before for the first time in what has to be ten years and wow--

It's still just as good. The ending is really off, now. But the rest of the movie was pretty damned good still.

Really amazes me how he's influenced so many people. I could see it in his dollying and panning, framing and all.

For some reason, I had never remembered the part where the guy had his eyes pecked out, and he did the medium to close-up slams. It made me laugh.

Still a great movie, going to pick up the DVD this weekend.

When Tippi Hedren is sitting on the bench and they pan away from her, then pan back and hundreds of birds are behind her ... I'll never forget how that scene screwed me up as a child.

Oh man, that shot made my skin crawl.

How they were all piled up on the children's play-bars/monkey bars? Seriously.

It's pretty nice how technically advanced it was, as well. I know there were a lot of films that took advantage of compositing, but watching it and how good the compositing was when it came to the bird attacks... those shots were done very well for what they had to work with.

Ooh... and the part where the birds come down the chimney. Nasty.

Someone told me recently when i watched in Bryant Park last month that Hitchcock saw The Birds as a pseudo sequel to Psycho?

Anyone else know about that?

I can certainly see parallels.
