The "Big" Moving to LA Thread

hey everyone, it's been a while but here's another update - more encouragement for anyone thinking about moving to LA.
my brother and I got here in June 2009 with the goal of making our very own feature film.
we had some friends who lived here already but no connections to anyone with any actual influence in the industry.
we spent about 2 years working day jobs (see earlier in the thread) to pay the bills while we were writing and pre-producing.
in June 2011 we decided to quit our day jobs, call in every favor, take advantage of every connection, and go full-steam ahead with the movie.
we started shooting in September with a cast that I almost still don't believe.

we're a couple of weeks away from locking picture now, then it goes to sound design, composer, color, and VFX and we are extremely excited about the future.
so i just thought people might like to see that it can be done... you just have to do it!

Odd and useless post.

Well, The Student, I just moved to LA a few months ago, but moved into none of those locations. Me, I am in the bad part of town. But always keep in mind, this town can be difficult to make a living right away at film-making. But if you fight hard, have a back up plan (other job), and take every opportunity to get your name out there.....you may do well. But, and this is for anyone thinking about the move to LA: you have a lot of competition here, every other person seems to be tied into film-making somehow. Where you are now, you may be one in a handful of film-makers. Here, you will be a needle in a stack of needles, so you have to figure how to stand out from the crowd.

Not trying to depress or discourage anyone. Just giving you some things to think about, so people don't just jump up and move out here. It's really can be dog-eat-dog out here. Trust me, I know. TheMacB seems to have done it, but I would hazard a guess he can show that he paid is dues before his success. Congrats, TheMacB. That's actually really cool (and pretty rare).

I don't know if there is anything I can do to help, The Student, but always willing to pass your name along.
