The best way to black and white

Hello everyone,
I'm currently shooting a short with the Dvx 100A. The final footage is to be out in black and white. Is there anything special I should do in order to get a good black and white picture?
Also, how can I make the best use of the zebra?
Thank you guys, I appreciate it. :) :)

Re: The best way to black and white

There is no best way. It depends on the original image. You can either desaturate teh image, change it's color mode from RGB to grayscale or choose one of the monochrome channels (R, G or B). That will yeld different results, and depending of the color composition of your image, one will be better than the others.

Thinking about still photography, all those ways really make a big difference, but when we go to the digital register, where the brightness/contrast control is at the click of the mouse, I'd suggest trying the way that will give you less contrast, and then resolving your ideal contrast/gamma with some filter. Just have your EFV to display BW, and shoot away... Don't crush your blacks, since you will have to work your image in post anyway, try to get as much info as possible.

That's the path I'd go...

It'd be great if you could completely remove the chroma layer - one of the "1s" in the 4:1:1

If you could, then you could possibly get a much better picture, because you'd have a seemingly uncompressed picture. Or at least I think this might be somewhat right - I don't know much myself about all the tech aspects of video...
