The best : juicedlink or simple XLR --> 1/8" input ?

Hi
i have a question :
If i don't want to lose audio quality, what is the best option for connecting a mic into a 3.5mm mic input of a consumer camcorder ?

Is there a significant advantage in terms of quality to use juicedlink over a simple XLR --> 1/8" input ? (like this one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/589872-REG/Pearstone_8111240_LMT100_Low_to.html)

The juicelink is a bit inconvenient, bulky to put under a camcorder if we do mostly point and shoot as i do. Sadly, the tripod appear to be mandatory.

Is Juicedlink would be an advantage over a simple XLR --> 1/8" little cable ?

Thanks in advance,
Have a great day,
Julien

The best solution would be a proper recorder with XLR ins, but to actually answer your question, a Juicedlink box is a much better solution than an adapter cable. The bulk/weight is still much less than a pro camera, and people run and gun with those all the time.

thanks a lot for your advices. <
to have good audio, another option would be to separate the audio from the video by using audiorecorder like tascam.

I'm not sure I would go for the Juice link. Your dropping $200 for some very limited functionality. You would be far better off with a MixPre. That is about 3X the price but I have seen them used in the $300- $350 range.

The problems with the JL are, no headphone, no meters (even the pricey 4 channel one has really nothing more than an activity indicator), no limiter, no roll off.

The pre amps are probably better than the ones in the camera but that isn't a very high fence to jump.

So your spending a bunch on something that really your going to want to upgrade from soon, and may not be a significant improvement over an adapter.

If your thing is to "point and shoot" I'm guessing that you have your mic mounted to the rig and your not using a boom operator? If so I would really not spend the money till your ready to take the sound quality seriously and at that point the Juice Link probably won't cut it.
