the best JAMES BOND

there have been various actors to play Bond. IMHO i think that Roger Moore was the best, in the 70's. of course those were the times i grew up in, so naturally i took a liking to his Bond movies.
now apparently PBronson seems to be the best. i don't dig him, i honestly think that he is as bad as TDalton. he is set to be in the new Bond movie Casino Royale

a present actor who could make a good Bond would/could be Julian Mchanon (ex Charmed 'Cole')

if i was making a bond movie, i would cast him, and make it like the fantasy Bond movies of the 70's.

Roger Moore! Those are fighting words.

This calls for a poll, Kumaran!

i agree, state the best Bond, and if you don't think any of them was good (unlikely), come up with one who you think could pull it off

I liked Dalton - he gave a gruff version of Bond similar to Connery, who I liked for the same reasons. Connery was more suave than Dalton, which I liked.

Brosnan is the epitome of suave, and I think he's a fine choice as Bond. Well, I guess I've named more than just one :S

Dalton was spot-on as the Bond from the Fleming novels. I liked “The Living Daylights” very much and it was similar in feel and concept to “From Russia With Love,” one of the better Connery movies.

Overall, I like Connery the best, and I like his movies the best. My favorite will always be “You Only Live Twice,” which is the archetype Bond movie.

“GoldenEye” was the only good Brosnan movie.

Who should play him now? No one presently comes to mind, though Christian Bale might have the chops. Personally, I think they should take the series back to the ‘60s and just do some cool Cold War spy stories. Things were much more exotic and magical then.

Goldfinger...PERIOD!

Oh yeah, Dalton was cool. Roger Moore just plain sucked ass, IMHO of course. Brosnan was meh. I'm not a big fan of Bond flicks, but there were a few made that were actually really good.

I have a feeling Casino Royale is going to turn out to be among the better ones...just too bad that Tarantino didn't get the chance to do his thing with it.

Dalton is definitely short-changed as Bond. He did a great job, and was the closest to the novels (as previously mentioned). Although the actress that they got to plan Moneypenny during the Dalton years was a travesty.

Personally I a huge fan of Brosnan. The last two have been so-so, but Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies were two of the higher ranking Bond films on my list.

People who could play Bond now: I think Ralph Finnes could add something to the roll. He'd probably be as suave as Brosnan/Connery, but he'd add a bit of levity to the roll. I'd be willing to give Dougray Scott a chance for more of a hard edged Bond. And in about 10 years I think Ewan McGreggor would be fantastic in the roll.

I always liked Moonraker, not sure I dig Roger Moore as the "best" but I thought that movie was cool. Of course, it was 79 and I was still on the Star Wars kick as a young kid and I had no idea Connery even existed as Bond at the time.

good point JuBal28............Christian Bale could pull it off as the 21st Century Bond,
i never thought of that
nullphonic............moonraker was also one of my best Bond films, there was something extraordinary about it. at the time it was the highest grossing bond movie ever.

Sean Connery Is James Bond. can't believe this is even up for debate. ; )
want to sort of hijack and explore a subject that is open for debate, greatest bond flick. I have 3:
-Thunderball
-For Your Eyes Only
-Live & Let Die

George Lazenby!!

OK, maybe not... In short, Connery is Bond, Dalton and Brosnan are very good in their own ways, and for haters of Roger Moore, check out Live And Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, and For Your Eyes Only. Those are his best and prove he can be very cool as Bond.
And even though it's not the greatest, I find Moonraker hilarious and highly enjoyable...mostly because it was the very first Bond movie I saw.

My top 5 Bond films of all time:
1. From Russia With Love
2. Goldfinger
3. Goldeneye
4. The Spy Who Loved Me
5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service

my personal best 5:-
moonraker
the spy who loved me
goldfinger
live and let die
the world is not enough

This is tough; and my opinion on the subject tends to flip flop. I like the different Bond's for different reasons; like Moore being a childhood icon or Connery being the first or even like Brosnan bringing back the mystique.

Connery

A true icon and actor. The first one. Connery set the blueprint down for all to follow. Played throughout the 60's; an era of rebellion and dramatic world change from post World War 2 living into Vietnam and youth. Connery is almost rock and roll with his 60's suits and swagger and regulary goes up against SPECTRE (Really the Soviets). Connery is like a young Hugh Hefner but get's more than just the bunny; he get's to be a secret agent who kills bad guys. Thunderball is in my top list of Bond films. It combines adventure and underwater action and an epic underwater battle. Very cool.

Goldfinger is another classic entry and almost the perfect Bond film. We get to meet Felix, his CIA buddy who has not made enough appearances in the franchise. And what about Oddjob? Classic. Best line? "My names Pussy Galore" "I must be dreaming." Very bold for a film released in 1964.

Lazenby

Poor George. Stepping in to replace Connery. An underrated film and an underrated Bond. You can see where Mike Myers get's his inspiration for Austin Powers. Seriously though; I wish more Bond films played on human emotions. This one was a love story first and foremost. Bond is always getting the girl; but rarely falling in love.

"Do I make you horny? Randy? Do I make you horny, baby, yeah, do I Telly?"

Moore

Zardoz said it best; Live And Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, and For Your Eyes Only. The Spy Who Loved Me is probaly my favortie Bond film ever. Barbara Bach is smokin hot; JAWS is the classic henchman and I like that Bond neeeds help in this from the British Naval dudes. The firefight between the factions in this is great stuff and the underwater LOTUS is a first.

Who can forget the opening scene when he is chased by bad guys and skis off of a cliff only to rip open his chute to safety? All of the music stops and it is pure silence as he falls and we go into the opening theme; a killer one at that, Carly Simons NOBODY DOES IT BETTER. This film is sentimental to me; first film I saw in a walk in theatre and I was blown away.

For Your Eyes Only

Another great Bond entry. sides it has Topol in it. And that dude is cool.

I always thought this chick was off the charts sexy. Don't ask. A brunette thing maybe? Or maybe it's the crossbow.

Dalton

dalton.jpg

Dalton brought the more vicious side of Bond out I think and probaly took the character more seriously than the others. The guy does Shakespeare for christssake. The two films unfortunately were forgettable but at no fault to Timothy. His toughness should be a staple blueprint for the Bond character. This is classic Bond as Ian Flemming imagined. Not a superhero, but a an average man who bleeds. All Bond's should use this as a blueprint. Dalton brought plausibility to Bond. It felt real and not like some Superhero. You really believe he is gonna kick your ass.

Brosnan

Love Pierce. Although the films he did were not the best ever; he brought the ultimate cool to being Bond I think. My favorite is Goldeneye. Brosnan brings the good looks and the toughness to the character. Not the most threatening looking Bond but when he scowls you sense he might be able to kick your ass even at 6'2" and a Buck O Nine. It is sad to see Brosnan step away from Bond but with the franchise going in the ridiculous direction it has; you can't blame him. How can you take it seriously when the filmmakers will not.

My Favorite Bond?

I'll take the heat. Brosnan. I can't remember being as excited as I was about Bond until He and Goldeneye surfaced. He brings sexiness, toughness and emotion to the role. It's a shame the filmmakers have seriously ****ed up the franchise with their over-the-top cartoonish action sequences. I love all Bonds; but Brosnan is one I'd like to see get another legitimate shot at the role with a serious filmmaker helming it. The other Bonds left the series when it made sense; it was time to move on. Brosnan? I feel there is one more Bond left in this guy.

Favorite Bond Film?

The Spy Who Loved Me. This film always seemed the most EPIC to me.

Favorite Bond Viilain?

Adolfo Celi as Emilio Largo

Favortie Bond Girl?

Ursulla. This woman was just ****ing gorgeous.

Favorite Bind Song?

Madonnas DIE ANOTHER DAY.

Who should be the next Bond?

No idea; Clive is cool. But I just don't know. 'd like to see the series go back to it's roots. A little more serious, not so extravagant in 'plans to dominate wolrd'. Being it back to a plausible level. I'd like to see a Bond in special ops SAS.

I could go with Clive. And Domino (NOT Kim Basinger’s Domino) was smokin’ hot, along with Daniella Bianchi (“From Russia With Love”).

favorite Bond woman? there are just too many. what do you want, for me to have a seizure trying to pick? nice screengrabs. and for those of you who haven't yet seen "Thunderball," well go out and rent it!

How about continuing on John's theme of a list of favorites:
Bond- Connery
Film- Thunderball
Villian- Top Hat (Voodoo guy close 2nd)
Chick- Come on, not a fair question
Gadget- Exploding gum

Any other suggestions?

Brosnan is one I'd like to see get another legitimate shot at the role with a serious filmmaker helming it. The other Bonds left the series when it made sense; it was time to move on. Brosnan? I feel there is one more Bond left in this guy.

The sad thing is that from all of the interviews and articles that I've read, Brosnan wants to do another one. And Brosnan has always said that he wants to return to the roots and do more realism and specifically do Casino Royale. So what's the next Bond film? Casino Royale. But it sounds like the Brocolli family is pushing him out of the role. It's a shame that everyone can't get along for the sake of the franchise and the fans.

Oh well....

Oh, jeez . . . Tarantino would have destroyed it. It’s not his thing.

I think it would be right up his alley. This man lives for f'in with genres. I love the Bond films just as much as the next guy, but I think a Bond flick with a Taranino makeover might be really cool. At least it would be something different.

Besides, Casino Royale wouldn't have even been made if Tarantino didn't flame the fires for a remake by expressing interest in it in the first place. Instead they go with Martin Campbell, the man behind Goldeneye. I'm sure he'll kick ass, but I thought it was a wasted opportunity.
