The best EVF Mounting System?

Hi guys,

I'm after a PROPER EVF mounting system. No fuss, no wiggle, no slipping. And I'm wondering if anyone's used the Wooden Camera Air EVF system, and can comment on how well it performs? I want a proper EVF solution that can easily move from a shoulder-mount position (at the front of the camera), to a tripod position at the rear of the camera (using a quickly exchangable extension arm).

Wooden Camera seem to be the only crowd that I can find (other than Arri) who are making a proper EVF system like this. So it'd be great to hear feedback (if anyone has any), or if anyone knows of comparably robust and easy-to-use systems from other manufacturers, I'd love to hear about them.

Cheers

I've used the Zacuto Axis Mini, it's not bad. https://store.zacuto.com/axis-mini/

The Wooden System you mention seems to be geared pretty much toward RED DSMC2 systems, is there an efficient way to
mount or use that on other camera systems? The recepticle seems like it's only for the RED EVF? What kind of EVF do you have and
which brand camera systems are you wanting to use it on?

Wooden camera.

I have a couple of the wooden camera AIR systems and they work as you are after.

Combined with their new top handle it’s pretty solid. I like it. I use it hand held and as an extension EVF with an EPL.

I feel like Shape used to have something but I can’t find it now.

What EVF / camera is it for ?

Wooden makes AIR EVF systems for several cameras. At least, for Sony Venice and a couple Arri cameras in addtion to Red. Don't know the full list. Seen it on Arri; pretty solid. Here are some search results from their site (which, understandably, is largely organized by camera rather than by accessory type):

The Wooden Camera system has options for basically everything out there. And the ones they don't make themselves, Arri generally make conversion brackets for. And since the Wooden Camera system uses the same dovetail system as Arri, the two are totally cross-compatible (which is nice).

I have two of the Zacuto Axis Minis already. They're not bad, but I couldn't call them good, and they're much to fiddly for my tastes, the tightening screws are maddeningly small, and have to be cranked beyond any reasonable amount of force to lock off my Gratical Eyes at times.

I'm fed up with fiddling, so I just want a proper, professional solution.

Great, good to know. Thanks JB! (it's hard to find feedback on them anywhere, I suspect they're only being used on larger sets, everyone else seems terrified by the size of them).

It's for the Gratical Eye and the Sony F55 at the moment. Possibly the Canon's V70 EVF in the future.

The air looks good. I tried it at a gear meetup on a Venice. Felt good. WC always feels a little cheap to me. Arri and Vocas tend to have a reassuring feel, even in the locking tabs. They glide tight, whereas WC tends to grind, similar to Tilta or Smallrig.

The EVF Air seems like one of the better WC products. As they aren’t reinventing the wheel, as far as i can tell, they are just making a needed product. WC tends to look nice and utilitarian (even when it isn’t), and their machining and materials are nice enough.

The lock on the air and the tensioner, both seemed to work well. Was compelling enough a sample, that i’ll look into getting one, if i dislike the Vocas option. Tempted by Arri, but if WC is $550, the. I already know i won’t want to pay whatever Arri is asking. Though, for an EVF mount, the feel and function are very important. Can make all the difference in how the day goes.

I think you’ll like them.

As you asked for, you can tighten them so that they can still be adjusted by touch Set looseness—>adjust as needed and it stays vs Untighten—>move—>tighten

I like that it’s pretty camera EVF agnostic. They also made / printed me up some custom parts for it and I like that Wooden will do this. Speak to Ryan, he’s always really looked after me.

And I said SHAPE but I actually meant SOLID seem to do good stuff but I haven’t used it in anger.
