Re: The Best Class Ever

That quote is on the first page of the syllabus. :D

"My cats breath smells like catfood." - Ralph

How come they didn't have that course when I was in college. Oh wait. The Simpsons wasn't around back then. Heck, tv wasn't around back then! (Figured I'd hit myself with that joke before any of you could.)

Good luck TC!!! Sounds like fun. Hey, if you need to do a book report maybe you could do one on the book you just received in the mail (wink, wink). That would be so WILD!

Re: The Best Class Ever

That's great!!! ;D

That's it, I'm going back to college. Rodney Dangerfield style.

Re: The Best Class Ever

I hate you :(

Primarily because of the fact that they dont offer that class at my school. How great is when you can consider watching the Simpsons "Homework"

...Oh ****, I got a final, better go pick up season 3 and bust out a late night cram session.

Re: The Best Class Ever

Why not? It's a perfectly cromulent word.

That's right, TC; go embiggen your mind . . .

Re: The Best Class Ever

That sounds like a badass class!! In the NC system they teach Clingon, that will be useful!

Re: The Best Class Ever

Okay, I would definitely take that class if I were still in college. But as a 39 year old father of 2, it scares the crap out of me that this is a real college course.

Re: The Best Class Ever

My daughter just heard of a high school where they teach Elvish. Guess what - the next thing, she wants to go there in the fall!

Re: The Best Class Ever

I’m so glad education is grounded in reality these days. What was the American Revolution about? Who cares?! I want to speak Elvish! Or Klingon!

Re: The Best Class Ever

Hahaha! Where is that school Jerry? haven't heard that one myself! I've studied Tolkiens linguistic papers in some detail so the topic is certainly interesting to me (though I fail to see how one can "teach" elvish. It's sort of like learning Old English.) Smart guy btw! Honestly, some people are just incredibly intelligent.

Re: The Best Class Ever

Wow. I'm in English Comp. right now and I wish I could take that class instead. What is the world coming to?

Re: The Best Class Ever

Somewhere in Toronto, I think. I'll ask my daughter...

David: you seriously don't want me to reply, do you? I would hate this thread to get locked up.

Let me just say that the education system perfectly serves some people's purpose... and it ain't the same people most folks would think of.

Re: The Best Class Ever

Nice.

If your daughter is interested enough in the topic I can connect you guys with some good resources. I'm, personally, only really interested in the technical linguistic aspects of Tolkien's languages but I have some great contacts who work in the teaching realm (teaching with the emphesis on using the language(s) in some manner or another). There are several courses online in fact - one written by a friend of mine who lives (er lived actually) in Germany.

Sorry to hijack the thread!

I'm sure I'd agree with you, Jerry, but yes, let's leave it at a sardonic comment! ;D
